Have you taught your kids how to swim

I have 10 nieces and nephews and as we live right on the beach, when they come over its the 1st place we go, my sisters kids can all swim even my nephew who is 6, but my brothers kids arent thay good and his oldest is 14. I think if you live near the water or holiday frequently near the water its a must. I have helped pull a few people out of the surf and they were all adults. Do you think kids should learn to swim, and at what age would you start them ??
