Payment boom is it a boon or bane?

In this world the Information technology people are the highly paid.I wish to ask one question.Why they are paid so much?what is the reason behind it?I feel one day the trend will change when it reaches a saturation point.What do you people think?

Information technology people were paid so much because we are now in the technology era.

This is boon for the employee mostly. Coz the IT is a subject ever changes with technology front. Earlier learned course may not fit for the next time period of 5 years. So this rapid changing scenario makes the employers to finish the existing projects at a given time helps more revenue and highly paid. So jobs are not stable, unless they have to learn every new development in order to stay in the race.
