changing names of cities. should it be allowed?

politicians n political parties especially in india when they r in power they try something new like change a city's name for instance bombay was renamed munbai,calcutta changed to kolkotta and recently bangalore to bengalooru.does it help in any way? to me it sounds absurd.
what do you feel???????

i think the political parties just use this as a way to please the local people by naming the cities with names that are historically connected with that city.. a lot of money has to be spent by the government when the name is changed.. all government stationary has to be printed again etc.. its and absolute waste..
