Would you return lost money?

I would not find myself comfortable taking something which is not mine. A few years ago I found quite a large sum of money with a cheque attached with it. I called the owner and after that I verified that he has lost his money, I asked him to come and pick up his money.
Well, many people with whom I shared this story with, told me that I was just being silly and they would have spended that money on luxury items or paying a bill. I asked them this question, what if it was your monthly wage? How are you going to feed your kids and sustain your family for that month?
What would you have done in my situation?

personally i would also return it if i found a money. Because if im in the place of that person that have lost the money i should also like to get it back to me. I believe in Karma so if you did good it will bring good also to you but if you do bad and not honest then it will also come back to you and beside its just a heavy burden in your conscience, you feel guilt spending or using a money which is not yours. We should remember the golden rule " Do not do unto others what you dont like to do unto you". So what you did is the right one dont listen to your friends.

I would have done the same thing. I believe what you do in life can either reward you or hurt you. So by giving the money to the person that it rightfully belongs too you might get something good happen in your life. Once I found close to 1000 dollars outside of H&R Block and with it was some of their tax papers. So I took it back into H&R block and they assisted me in finding the owner. The people that the money belonged to was very pleased to get it back and not for any reason that it was just money that they lost. It was the fact that they needed the money for bills and without they did not know what to do. So that made me very pleased that I was able to help them. Was I wrong at giving it back to them and not keeping it. Heck no. At minimum it made me happy for the rest of the day.

Yes I would return the money. Just imagine yourself losing such an amount. You would like it if someone found it and returned it to you. And you said the righ thing to the people you met: What if it's someone's wage or welfare check? Good for you not to fall into thr trappings of greed.

Absolutely yes. I would do tat if there r people around me I would ask them if anubody had lost their wallet & if anybody answered yes then I would ask for the conatins of the wallet. if it matches then I would return the wallet to the right person or I would surrender the wallet at the police station.

This happened to me, sort of, many years ago. This is the background of what happened. I had been in a car accident when another car ran a stop light and ran into the driver's side of my car as I was crossing the intersection. My car rolled over and finally came to a stop in an upright position.
After several weeks the insurance company of the other driver sent me a check for $2500.00 as full payment. I went to my Credit Union to cash the check and buy another car. I put $1500.00 in my savings account, and took the rest as cash. I went car shopping. I bought another car for $500.00 including registration, which was handled at the dealership. I went out and got something to eat and then went home. Can you imagine my surprise when counting what was left I came up with $1000.00 more than I should have had? I immediately called the Credit Union and asked to speak to my Mom, who worked there. I explained what had happened, and asked her how to handle it. She told me she would take care of it and that I should do nothing except wait for her at home. I handed her the $1000.00 and she took care of it.
Honesty is still the best policy.

Honestly for me, it is depend how much the money i have found. What if i could only found not too much, example, 20 pesos or 100 pesos..I never waste my time searching who was the real owner of it. Coz i was thinking i have still much more important things to do than to find that real owner of that money. But if icould found thousand or millions then, i should return it to the owner of course because what if (as what you have said) if is my monthly wage then how i am going to feed my kids and sustain my family.

You cannot do better than that. Good work. I too will do the same. If I find money I will surely not keep the money for myself nor would I spend it. I will try to find the owner and give the money back to whom it belongs. Once, i went to bank to withdraw a very small amount. But, the cashier gave me more money and I checked the money twice. I realised that i got more money. I went to cashier and told her. She was so shocked and she thanked me. I saved her day. Because may be she could be in trouble for making a mistake. I felt so satisfied. I went home and told my parents. My parents were really happy for what I did. They praised me. Good work always pays you in different ways. Keep up the good work.

If I know for sure whose is the money, yes I would give it back. But if there is no identity with the money I find, I just keep it. I don't even take the money to a police station because if I don't keep it the police will!

yes i would definitely return money to the owner.
it depends on how a person thinks.
like if i would keep money for myself and spend it maybe i would be out of troubles for one month but the guilt that i spend other,s money would kill me throughout my life.
some may not take it to heart and may not even have that guilt but i just wouldnt carry that guilt with me.
i appreciate you for ur noble act and iam sure GOD will help you some way.

I feel the same way as you about something that doesn't belong to me, especially money. It's great to know there are still honest people out there. That's probably why God had you find the money. He knew you'd do the right thing with it. I honestly believe that every situation like this and multiple other scenarios we come up against are tests of our character.
My son had found $30 in a grocery store...all rolled up and squished on the floor...like someone had it squished in their pocket and it fell out. He too being very young started dreaming about what he could now buy with it. It was a learning opportunity for our family. So I expressed what if that was your money, what would you want someone to do with it if they found it? He said, "give it to the manager just in case I come back looking for it" I then expressed how that would be the best thing to do is turn it in to the manager. He didn't agree at first because he felt the manager would keep it. I reminded him that is between God and the Manager then, it's not your money in the first place. So we did that and the manager put the money into an envelope, put my sons name and phone number on the envelope, and told my son that if no one claims the money within 30 days, he'll personally call my son and he can come get the money. We forgot about it, you know 30 days for a kid is like years. The manager ended up calling my son...30 days on the dot and asked him to come pickup the money.

Well actualy i think i'd give it back, But if i could not find the person or this person was using it for someting illegal i'd just take it away and never speak of it...
if this person was lying to me about it being his money and that person stole it from someone else then i'd keep it...

I would return the money if i found lost money. Because the money is not mine. I think it wasn't good when you take something that doesn't belong to you.

I would have taken it to the police for them to track down who it belonged to and sort out. If they can't trace the person down after a month, you can go and legally claim it as your own and if they do track the person down, then its a happy ending.
