Is depression a symptom of paranoia, or paranoia a symptom of depression?

my mother was depressed for many years, but we lived in Germany and they do pay very close attention to that illness. meny people don't realise that depression can cause physical illness too and that it is in most cases worst than just having broken an arm. depression can destroy your life and kill you (spiritually). i think they should make it possible for everybody to go to a psychiatrist, but i don't know if that will happen. ciao vicky
