Cymbalta saved me

Well, maybe that is a little melodramatic to say, but my life was headed down the toilet until I switched to Cymbalta. I was put on Lexapro for Generalized Anxiety Disorder, first 10 mg/day then doubled to 20mg/day. At first that worked great but then it started to make me depressed. I started to hate being married and took out all my frustrations on my husband. I was yelling at my kids more than before meds. It helped my anxiety symptoms like high blood pressure and insomnia but I just couldn't live with the night sweats and constant "dead inside" feeling and general unhappiness. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia about 6 weeks after starting Lexapro (my Fibro symptoms started 2 months before meds though, so Lexapro had nothing to do with that). I read on a Fibro message board that Cymbalta was helping people with that since the mechanisms that cause both Fibro and depression are similar. Both are caused by chemical imbalances, and since Cymbalta is supposed to treat pain as well, I thought I'd give it a whirl. My husband and parents both noticed the change right away. My marriage is good once again, plus a Bonus...I have no pain whatsoever from my Fibromyalgia! I don't have night sweats anymore, nor do I have sleep problems. This stuff is great, and I don't personally see the need ever to get off of it.
Any other Cymbalta success stories?

Hi stacieinTexas! I have just taken my first dosage of Cymbalta today, and I am crossing my fingers! I am currently trying something new, with the doctor's direction, of course. I have been on Effexor for two years now, and have gained a whopping 70 lbs. on it! I LOVE how it has made me feel like my 'old' self again, and brought my sense of humor back! However, I hate the weight gain, as I am used to being 120 lbs.! Both of my doctors have told me that people who take Cymbalta do not gain nearly as much weight than those on Effexor. I am having wicked withdrawl symptoms from the Effexor, and my doc just told me to start the lowest dosage of Cymbalta now, instead of waiting until I am on the lowest dosage of Effexor. She said that this should help with the headaches that I have been having. I am glad that you are doing well, and I am wondering if you happened to have gained any weight while taking the Cymbalta?

What do you mean? That judgement was intended for me and me alone. How long have you been taking Cymbalta and what has been your experience with it? I know all people respond to medications differently. I have a friend who loves Wellbutrin but another had to get off of it because she said, and I quote, "It made me want to kick someone's a$%!" LOL
What I would like to hear is from others with a positive experience with Cymbalta.

I've been a Fibromite for 20 years now. I started really going downhill when I got divorced. I had every sign of depression there is and was diagnosed, but I failed to accept it. I also have panic disorder.
Now that I've accepted it, I'm on Cymbalta. I see my life getting better and better each day. My pain has also lessened as well as my anxiety. It's a miracle!
It's nice to meet you. Your story put a huge smile on my face. : )
