Ebay - Seller's Unrealistic Expections

Man, some of the things people sell on EBay and what they expect to get for them amazes me. I am looking for a new digital camera because mine died. I don't mind people who are selling broken ones, as long as they are honest. But, I swear I saw one where the STARTING bid was $35. It didn't power up because the seller dropped it. Or they say, "no screen shot" but works great.
Why do they do this? Be honest. Someone will buy it for parts and hey, that's better than what you have now for it which is $0.

It can be a bit addictive. But, if you just go looking for a specific thing with a specific price in mind, it is great.

People are always trying to get more than what an item is worth. The same goes for tag sales that I have seen. The prices they ask for something used is nearly as much as you'd pay for new.

They get in their head that they can get a certain price for an item. But when they see that it doesn't sell or doesn't get alot of hits (because pricing is too high), they will eventually get the hint and drop the price. I've come across this many times before.

I find this goes both ways. Sellers want to make money, and buyers want things for an unrealistically low price. The thing that really ticks me off, is sellers who try to rip you off with shipping costs. Some sellers charge 10 times more than the actual shipping costs. It pays to read the listing thoroughly before you bid, to avoid getting screwed.

Tell me about the shipping costs. I saw one camera that the buy it now price was $19.99. The shipping was $34.
When I sell, I try to be honest about the quality of the item and I only charge what it costs me to ship it. I don't ship priority as a default method, either.

Well, you need to be Buyer beware in so many ways for things on Ebay. I see this time and time again when I come on there. People who overcharge on items. Either via the Auction themselves, or via the Shipping. And why sell Junk or something that is Broken on Ebay? You would only in time ruin your reputation, and feedback unless you like to go changing your Nick all the time on there? Makes no real sense to me at all.
