I think the more important question is what sort to buy. What ever brand you buy make sure it is a burr grinder. I bought a cheap $20 one from Walmart at it makes alot better coffee then a blade sort, or the old fashioned hand one.
I have added a link to a great site that explains why a burr grinder is and why it is better.. enjoy!

I was thinking about you and this question this morning while grinding coffee so I thought to look at ours and see what brand it is. Ours is made by Mr.Coffee. I mention this only to tell you that I don't really like the one we have so I suggest you look for a different brand unless you read raving reviews on Amazon or somewhere and it says this is the best brand out there. I have no idea if it was expensive or not since DH bought it but what I don't like is that it seems really cheap to me. And coffee sticks inside of it when I try to pour the ground coffee out into the coffee filter.

Well maybe... but we've been using it on the medium setting. I'll try the coarser setting tomorrow and see if that makes it better.

Its probably more of the grind being to fine or too coarse, then the brand. Most consumer grinders use either a blade or burrs to do the grinding, so are essentially the same between all brands. i.e, all blade ones are essentially the same, and all burr ones are essentially the same. Personally I would stay away from a blade grinder - they are way too inconsistent to make decent coffee that same everyday.

I use my great-grandmother's old coffee grinder. Nothing new, I grind it the old fashoned way.

I ended up buying a Kitchen Aid. Its compact and works nicely. Thank you for the ideas!
