I have had a terrible sore throat for a week with fever and congestion too. I have been gargling with warm salty water but today I started having blood in the fleme of my throat . Do you think this might be strep throat ?? I have never had it but I can't shake this am starting to get concerned.

Sounds like even if it wasn't anything too "bad" you may have simply overkilled the stuff for your throat, making it even more raw. I'd call the doc and even if you just ask him to call in a strep test at the local lab, at least you will know. And it won't kill you to get checked! LOL You sound like me! And in case you wondered "ignore it and it will go away" doesn't really work... I've tried. LOL

Sometimes strep comes along with a rash on the body. I beleive with strep you don't get signs of a cold. I did not have any when I had it. It hurts sooooo bad. Hurts to swallow and just plain hurts all of the time. :( If your coughing alot and have alot of phlegm with some blood in it, you could have a bronchial infection, Pneumonia, or a respiratory infection. I would not worry too much, but see a doc if you can :)

if you are concerned about it shouldn't you be going to the doctor? they would be able to diagnose it better than anyone on the internet.
Generally speaking, if I have a problem that lasts more than a few days then I would see a doctor.
Especially if I was starting to see blood!
Hope you get better soon :)

OMG, you're crazy, lol I don't mean to laugh but geesh you really wanted that HOME REMEDY! They say doctor, you say home remedy. If you do have a really sore throat, it can cause bleeding. It happened to both my children a few weeks ago. I did take them to the doctor. Neither one had strep. I would suggest you go to the doctor to be on the safe side. If you want that DANG home remedy, stop talking so much! get cloraseptic cough drops, chamomile tea and an antiseptic rinse.
It's usually used to mouth irritations like canker sores and dental issues, but I used it for my kids when they were sick, it helped relieve the pain.
Just a little info since I can copy and paste now.
Peroxyl contains Hydrogen Peroxide, a proven safe and effective oral antiseptic cleanser. When Peroxyl comes into contact with mouth tissue, xygen is released in a pleasant mild bubbling action. This provides mechanical cleansing which flushes out mouth debris, while the oxygenating effect of Peroxyl helps control the spread of susceptible organisms.
Hope you feel better!

I had strep throat and it is so much worse than a sore throat. It feels like you are swallowing razor blades.
This has been too long so get to a dr girl..... enough said.

when there's already bleeding concerned, you should go to the hospital immediately to get examined. usually, most people who suffer from sore throat all the time have heart disease. i hope you're not one of us. so, go to the doctor as soon as possible and have yourself examined.

Oh yes this certainly sounds like strep throat, and once you seen the blood I do hope that you went to the doctors as you cannot afford to play around when this occurs, better to know for certain that to be sorry and suffer any more pain than necessary.

I am just recovering from Strep Throat, so I can tell you what to look for. In most cases if you have strep throat and it's bad (which yours would definitely be if that's what it is) when you look in a mirror you should be able to clearly see your tonsils. They are on the sides of your throat. They will be all swollen and will have white spots (kind of resembles cream) on them. If this is what it is you definitely need a prescription to clear it up. Irregardless, you should see a doctor if this has been going on for a week, it definitely sounds like something you will need medication for even if it is not strep throat. Get well soon.
