You will really want to wean him off being held to sleep or he may have sleeping issues later on. I suggest that you put him in his bed and perhaps rub his back until he falls asleep. Then gradually stop the back rubs and just sit by his bed till he falls asleep, then gradually move farther from his bed until you can put him there and he falls asleep on his own. This may take several days or a couple weeks but it should work.

i wish i can but i still have so many things to do so that leave me with no choice but to let him sleep in his bed alone.

First of all don't keep your house so QUIET all the time. After my kids got used to household noises they could sleep through the telephone and the vacuum cleaner. Make sure you have a regular nighttime bedtime and that naps or NAP is regular time. Don't hold him to go to sleep. It won't hurt to let him cry for a few minutes, till he exhausts himself to sleep. Don't let him scream or cry too long if it's too strong of a cry. Just make sure it's his tired cry, and that he is clean, dry, and full. Then let him just go to sleep.

I think the best way to get a baby to sleep longer is to swaddle them in a blanket and make sure they are warm. It gives them the feeling that they are in the womb. Also a background noise that you only use when they are sleeping can sometimes help. I had a cd that played soft water sounds that I used with my youngest and I plan on trying it with my new baby when she gets here in a couple of weeks.

My first is 15 months old & I she was the exact same way. She would sleep when I held her, but the minute I laid her down.. she would wake up. So, gradually during her naps-- I would rock her until she was asleep and then I would lay her on the ground (on a cushion or blankets) and she would wake up a little, but I would be laying right next to her until she fell back asleep.. then I would put a teddy bear next to her and put her arm over it so she would feel something close to her and this has worked like a charm.. she sleeps as long as she would have if I were holding her. If she wakes up, then I go and lay by her again and get her to sleep and it usually works.. Good luck!!

I used to sometimes take off the shirt or sweater I was wearing as I was rocking the baby, and lay it on him as a balnket. That way he still had my body warmth and my smell next to him, and didn't wake up.

my daughter is seven months and I am also noticing the same thing with her, the moment I get up she wakes up too. I feel its may be because of winters, she feels warm close to me and when I move away she can sense that. Today in the afternoon I realised she holds my dress between her fingers and moment it slips out of her hand she wakes up. Now what I did was, I put a pillow to her one side and then placed her cover sheet in her fingers instead of my dress before even moving, and voila she kept sleeping. Try and find out if your son is also doing somthing like that. I have started putting pillows nest to her on sides and covering her with slightly heavy quilt up to her chest it keeps her warm and she has not woken up this time again.
