Would you stay with the one you love or stay with the one who loves you?

This is one of the topics that I give my trainees for their debate. I've often wondered, would you stay with the one you love (but the catch is, that person doesn't love you) OR would you stay with the one who loves you (but then you don't love the person)? Give this a shot. =)

I will choose neither..
Choosing either makes me a selfish person..
1) If I choose the one I love (but who does not love me), I am keeping this person prisoner of my love when he could be happier with someone else..
2) If I choose the one who loves me (and whom I do not love), I am being unfair to this person, knowing I cannot reciprocate his love..
I'd rather just wait for the perfect person.. one whom I love and loves me back.

That's good of you to choose neither. At least, from the looks of it, you're perfectly happy with the one you're with right now... =)

Wow, what a great question!!
I wouldn't be able to stay with the one I love knowing that he didn't love me back. I think I would just be opening myself up to unnecessary pain and heartache. Giving your heart to someone that doesn't love you would be giving them total control of your life. Basically, they would have the power to run all over you and there would be nothing you could do to stop it for fear that they might leave you.
On the other side, I don't think I would be able to stay with someone knowing that they loved me and not being able to return the feelings. I think love is a two way street. If you know that someone loves you no matter what, you're more likely to take advantage of that person and exploit their feelings.
I guess if it really came down to it, I would rather be with the one I love because I wouldn't want to cause unnecessary pain or heartache to another person.

Thank you for your opinion. =) Yes. I believe that love really is a two way street... there has to be a give and take in any relationship in order for it to survive.

Oh dude, I hate to tell you this but both of those options SUCK! Given the option of the two, though, I'll take the one who loves me. I have absolutely no desire to be in a relationship with a person who doesnt love me. Now, I'm not thrilled about the idea of being with one I don't love, but given those alternatives...

Thats a really tough question. I suppose I wouldn't be with either one. How can I be with someone who doesn't want me? And how can I be with someone that I don't love. I would rather be alone. I love myself :)

Yikes! That is a tough one. I can't see me staying with someone I loved when the feelings were returned, yet I don't think I'd want to stay with someone (forever) who loved me, but I didn't love them back. Then again, I'd hate to be alone for the rest of my life too. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place. It will be interesting to see the responses to this question!

=) I know. I guess it's choosing between the lesser evil or... not choosing at all. lol.
