To make a long story short, I have semester finals coming up at school, and I was given the task of Identifying several compounds. I must design a procedure and i wan wondering if Hydrochloric acid could be used to identify calcite compounds such as Plaster of Paris (CaSO4, 1/2H20) and Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3). Does Hydrochloric acid react with calcites such as these, and what will be the result of the reaction? Are there any other acids that can be used to identify calcite compounds?
Please answer, i seriously suck at chemistry and I really need to figure this out
thanks
