Shopping Carts Gone Wild

I'm so tired of going to the store and I can't find a parking spot because there are carts in every spot. Who do you think is to blame? The cart boys for not working hard enough or customers for not putting their cart away? I honestly think it is the customers being lazy. If no one puts their cart away there is only so much that the cart pushers can do.

This must be a problem everywhere. We have the same problem. ALDI's have that problem solved though. You pay 25 cents to get the cart out of lock. You get your 25 cents back when you return the cart and lock it back into place..I have never seen a cart that has been in the parking lot. Problem solved.

Oh my goodness! What a great solution! I so wish our local Wal-Mart would do this. There have been times that there literally was not a place to park secondary to homeless carts!

I always loved the idea of the "cart deposit"... they used to have those at the grocery store where I shopped. It absolutely made a difference about the number of rogue carts rolling around the parking lot. Believe it or not, they got rid of them because the rate of vandalism was so high that a majority of carts had the "deposit box" broken... all because people didn't want to put in a quarter!

Wow, that's actually a great idea and it's a shame more stores don't do that. What people fail to see in the first place, is that it's not the job of the employee who retreives carts to put away carts for all the customers, it's their job to pick up after the lazy idiots who don't put their carts away, which I guess only encourages more people to do it.

I think its the customers fault for not putting the trolley out of the way or in a bay for trolleys. Also like villageanne said, Aldi make you pay for your trolley so people generally take them back. It cost $2 here to get a trolley from aldi

well there are too ways to look at this. i hate seeing that shopping carts are not put away, so i make sure i put them in the little bins in the parking lot, because at least someone still has job security to come out and get them, but if everyone walked the carts back to the store then someone will lose their job because they do not need to go out and collect them.

Actually, most people (not all) who do cart-pushing switch off with other employees in between their actual job positions, whether that's bagging, stocking or what have you.

I gotta be honest, I'm one of the ones responsible for doing it. It's partially laziness and partially the fact that the bays they have for the carts are usually full of carts that have just been pushed in quickly and fill the entire area

That's SO true... how hard is it, once they've already walked to the return, to just put the carts in properly? No one wants to do this and they end up rolling out backwards! I've seen people get half way between the two parking rows and give the cart a huge shove in the general direction of the bay. Do they think they are equipped with a homing device or a giant magnet or something? LOL Were those 8 more steps really so out of the question? sighhhh

It is very annoying for me as well, but if it is blocking the parking space, I always make my kids get out and move them, then when I park I make each grab a cart and we roll them in, I figure were walking up there anyway might as well help, the kids don't seem to mind either. If people would take the extra step and put them in the little spots that are in the parking lot,or grab one as you are coming in might reduce the problems. They should give customers who bring in the carts a coupon or something for there effort.

Yeah it's the same around here where I live. I dont blame the cart boys I blame the lazy customers. I cannot even count the amount of times I have seen someone unload they're purchases and then look around and leave the cart right there, but then they complain when they're cars get hit by shopping carts..

The customers are definitely to blame. They're just lazy. I see people leaving their carts right next to the cart corral, when it would require basically the same amount of effort and time to put it IN the corral. Of course, these are the same people that can't seem to park between the lines because that would also require the smallest of effort, so they're taking up even more parking spots. Paying for carts and getting your money back when you return them would certainly fix the problem, because lets face it, lazy people tend not to work much so every quarter is worth a few seconds of their time. It can be very frustrating. I always try to get my cartin the holder thingy, but honestly sometimes my kids are crazy and it is just too far away. When I see so many out I ususally blame the kid who is supposed to be getting the carts together because he is not doing his job. What I hate is going to the store to find ALL of the carts are wet becuase they only just went out to get some when they were totally out! YUK!

I think a lot of it is customers being lazy. I always put my cart away everytime I use it, but sometimes I don't feel like it, esp. if it is raining or really cold. I think if everyone would make the effort, there would not be this problem.

Yes I agree. I have seen many people just leave their carts anywhere they want to. I don't see what is so hard about putting the cart in the cart rack. I always put our cart where it is supposed to go because I get so irritated when other people just leave it anywhere they want to so I don't like to do it to anyone else. :)

I think it's both, but mostly the customers fault. How hard is it to walk a tiny bit to put a cart in the right area? I've even seen carts like 10 feet from where they're supposed to be. Is it that hard? Come on people, just be polite and make life easier for everyone by putting your cart back where it belongs. And the cart boys should work hard to make sure all carts are going where they belong, but like you said, htere is only so much they can do. They're not robots! I hate when people have the attitude, "Well there's people to do this so I don't have to." That is so annoying! Grow some respect!

We call them shopping trolleys in Australia but yeah they are going crazy. Have you ever been shopping and you're looking for something so walking slowly and someone runs into you with a trolley/cart because you are in their way....I wear steel capped boots when I shop now :P *wink*

It is definitely because the customers are too lazy to take the cart back to where the designated areas are for them. I always take my cart back to the cart rack or in front of the store. I never leave them in parking spots as it makes it inconvenient for anyone else arriving to shop. We can not blame the cart boys as they can not get them all the time and have other responsibilities in the store too.

Those people that don't want to put thier cart in the cart corral are the some ones that will drive around the parking lot for 10 minuates looking for a place to park close to the door or will block the ally way waiting for some one to leave so they don't have to walk an extra 15 yards. They are usually young people that can walk a ways or at least should. and thats my pet pevee for the day.

i blame it on the customers because the cart boys try and they work hard. but when they take the carts in there are just a million more 5 minutes later all over the place. sometimes i dont put my cart away but i try to. i think it is also the laziness of the customers.

I believe it's the customers rightful duty to put the carts back in its place...when we go shopping we always return the carts after we put all the groceries in the trunk..some people should be more disciplined and not lazy..

It simply is the customer's fault for not returning it - please, don't ever believe that the "cart boys" aren't working hard enough - they work their as$es off for a low pay wranging carts in the hot sun - I would know as I used to work at SuperTarget (though not a cart attendant, I trained them and supervised their work) I like the itea of putting up a deposit - say .50cents or so...that would solve the problem COMPLETELY.

The customers definately should have the courtesy to put their carts away, but a lot of times, stores don't give bringing in carts a high enough priority. They'll send out the one retarded kid that they don't want to interact with customers and he's expected to bring in carts constantly for 8 hours. At some bigger stores, the carts just come out of the store faster than they can be put back in by any one person
