A good way NOT to make extra money - keep a journal about slacking off! LOL!!

Apparently, a woman was fired from her job for keeping a journal (a handwritten one, not an online one *laugh*) about things that she was doing to avoid work. Not only that, but now she can't even get unemployment benefits because of what she wrote in this journal. It just goes to show that you shouldn't go around writing about things that can endanger your job, like lists of ways to slack off and pretend to be working when you're not! *laugh* (Not that I know if she wrote things exactly like the above.. I just know that it's not that intelligent to go putting information like that out there. More and more employers are researching people on the internet before they hire them!) Here's the link to the news story: http://www.davesdaily.com/out.php?id=23777&url=http%3A%2F%2Fapnews.myway.com%2Farticle%2F20070120%2FD8MP0PU80.html

First let me say, thank you for posting some of the most amusing stories here. I always find these articles interesting and I always have something to say about them. Which is good because this is a discussion place. ha ha As for that woman...I can't believe that she even tried to get unemployment! What was she thinking that she would sit there and do nothing to accomplish her job and instead type about her ways of avoiding working AND saving it? Did she really think that she would really get away with it for that long? I can't help but wonder how long she was employed there. As for it getting published...now that would be a very sad day indeed for a woman to publish her way to somewhere from doing nothing. So much for her getting a job in the future! LOL Of course though, she will just find another way to sit on her butt at home doing nothing. And sadly, probably be living on our tax money.

That was rather silly of her to keep a journal at work. I don't believe in keeping journals, as although I have nothing to hide, I would hate anybody to read my personal information. Yes, the internet is very handy when it comes to checking out people. Whenever I want to know something about somebody, I will try a few search engines to do my research. I have done searches on myself and my family, just for fun, but nothing showed up. How, disapointing! I wanted to be able to read something good about them.

She kept a handwritten journal at work? That seems really silly, you're employer can basically go through your work belongings. I can understand do it if you really wanted but wouldn't you leave it at home?

I think that is crazy as well - how did she let someone get into her personal stuff? That was not very bright either. I think the stupidest thing that people do on the web is make myspace pages and websites like these - http//the9millimeter.tripod.com/ There people are just asking to go to the pen! That is as dumb as it gets to me. I guess they think police look at stuff like this.

Wow, I would think this is going a little over board, and to the Extreme if she cannot even get Unemployment from this, unless they have proof that some of these things she was writing about she was also doing. I am wondering how they can get away with things like this without the woman seeking a Lawyer, unless she personally knows they have more than enough Justable cause to do so.

Good point. I'm not sure what the lady was thinking, but generally you can count on other people to keep records on what you are doing wrong. You do not need to do it yourself. I guess you would have to be angry at the boss or the company. If I would have such a record, it would really be distressing to look at it.

if she's smart she'll get the journal published and make some money off it, might make the best seller's list if enough slackers buy it looking for ways to get outa work lol

HAHAHA this makes me laugh and takes me back when i was working at a university, i had to sack a secretary who e.mailed my staff wanting to know the best scams, she was using a different one each month and we had to stop it, but I do think she was showing great ingenuity blessed be

she must have been 1 dumb lady....i cant believe she even thought of mentioning it ...maybe she thought she never got cught when she was a kid and slacking of homework......

That is funny. Don't you think though that if she was given more to do in her job she wouldn't have had time to be on the computer all the time. It sounds to me that she was basically insulting her employers that they could pay her all this money for doing hardly anything. She was stupid to record everything though. If you are going to do this you have to cover your back. I know loads of people that access the internet while at work because they can. Her employers most probably fired her because they were embarrassed!!!

I can't believe that someone would be so dumb as to make such a journal and keep it at work! What was this person thinking? Obviously she wasn't. Keeping such a journal is fine if you are going to keep it somewhere (such as home) where your employer can't read it. This woman isn't very smart and deserves whatever punishment comes her way. Let's just hope that she doesn't try to get public assistance beings that she can't get unemployment.

I have to give her credit for making it look like she was actually working. However, if I was going to keep the journal, I would have typed in it at work and saved it to something that I could take with me so no one would discover it. That just seems like she was begging to be caught.

What an idiot, she deserves to be fired. I have a job where you can slack off and not do anything and it is no secret, but I wouldn't go around making lists of things to do to slack off, I would expect to get fired that also.

How funny! I can't believe that someone would have the nerve to behave that way. And then on top of it to ask the company to pay her unemployment. LOL Maybe she will be on the news some day with her own how to avoid working at work website.
