Recently i have more then one important women in my life diagnosed with different types of cancer. I watching ellen one day and a few people on the show where donating their hair to the cancer society. Your hair has to be at least 10" long and not processed. i've been growing mine for about 3 years and its about 14" from the ponytail down. Should i cut and donate it ? would you ? Will you ?

I a have a best friend who just doanted all of hers and I wanted to ...I cut about 13 inches off..maybe more. I couldnt though because they only take "virgin" hair. I was kinda bummed. I am going to grow it out again and donate it as soon as I can! I think it is a wonderful way to give to the community without having to overextend your pocketbook to feel good!

I agree you! you get to help someone and you dont have to shovel money out when you can't afford to, it doesn't cost anything to grow your hair, well ok the haircut and style afterward. but that makes you feel doubley (tha's probably not a word is it?) good cause you help someone AND you get a new style do!(hair-do)

It does help because some people who go through cancer cannot afford to purchase wigs! so this way they can have some self confidence back by getting a free wig.

I've thought about doing this, but my biggest concern is, since I color my hair, will they take it? If not, what would you have to do to get your hair to a healthy donatable condition? Other than shaving it all off and starting over.

Nope you can't donate it if you have perminently processed hair. if you just use wash outs then i think that its fine. If you really wanted to donate you would just have to let it grow out naturally and live with having two tones for a while. i used to dye mine too and it took about 3 years before it all grew out. I think if you eat alot of protiens it makes your hair grow faster, like peanut butter :)

YES!! I would definately do it. I have been growing my hair now (with the exception of a trim) for about a year. It is about down to the middle of my back, but I don't think its anywheres near enough to cut off. I also wouldnt look right with short (boy short) hair- it has to be at least shoulder length, so I have to let it grow pretty long to do this. I think it is a great cause!

I would for sure if I had long hair , my hair is short and I have to keep it short because it is so thick and I have found this was one of the problems linked to my migraines . But if I could let my hair grow I would definitley donate it . We can grow our hair back for them it is not possible and it is a small way of helping and making people feel better about themselves as I can't imagine not having my own hair .
