Is the trend of spending lavishly on one's marriage justified ..

Recently I have closely witnessed few marriages. In India it is a rising trend that ppl from affluent families spend lavishly on marriages. Lot of food is wested in the parties and learge investments are made for halls and music. In this discussion I expect active participation of the ppl to discuss wether such spendings are really justified ? I agree that marriage is the precious event in everybody's life that one may want to make it a really memorable event ! But at the same time I feel there has to be some balance in the spendings on items like Food, cloths and party locations; the payments for which are not mobilized to the needy class of the society. a lot of money is usvally burned on crackers too. Lets discuss it howmuch one should spend and how to achieve a balance....
