How long are your responses? Do you worry that they are sometimes too long?

I know sometimes I am not in the mood to read. This is not good when I am on myLot and find that I do not get much done of those days. But then there are other days that I not only read but I write a lot. Not just a lot of responses but long responses. I start typing and the words just start flowing and next thing I know, OOPS...I wonder if anyone is going to bother to even read what I wrote because what I just wrote is a chapter to a book! And then I wonder if my friends that I frequently respond to might start rolling their eyes and thinking, "Great, there goes Brokentia again with her rambling on and on." Some people may think I talk a lot. But really, I do not. It seems as if I am better able to write my thoughts than I am able to speak them. So here I sit, plugging away at the keyboard, typos and all. Hoping that I am not writing too much. Thinking, are they reading it or do they see me and not even bother to read it now because they are irritated with me. But I also find that when I write that well, I am pretty proud of what I wrote! But I still have to cringe each time I see my response length in camparison to others. So, my question is...How much do you write? Do you feel that you write too much? How much is too much? If a person is actually writing their thoughts and not copy and pasting an article, do you mind reading it? And for those that have seen me write long responses to your discussions. Please take it as a compliment....you made me think and it must have been a great discussion. :)

Oh, Tia ... I love reading your responses and would much rather have a well-thought out response, then something along the lines of, "Oh, I don't respond to discussions." As a response from people who don't give a lick about the thread that I started! I don't know that I have a set amount of how much I write, I think that I just write what I think, trying to "Be as descriptive as possible". If people read my response, then great and if they don't because it's too long well, then that's their loss as the saying goes. I don't like being forced to read whole articles as a post, but find that if someone starts a discussion or responds due to something that they read that it's nice to read important sections that are copied and pasted and then have the link so I if I'm interested I can read more. For instance, your discussion about lifting the ban on gays in the military was nicely done. You included quotes in the discussion and then because I was interested in reading the article I was able to go to the link. I've never once rolled my eyes at you and actually look forward to seeing what you have to say. Since, this is becoming lengthy any way, I'll add that I value your opinion for several reasons, though we don't agree on religious items you have never offended me in that and though we disagree we still have so much in common... I wish more people were like you!

I am sooooo glad to read that!!! Because I know I have left many lengthy responses on your discussions. But I feel the same as you. I have always loved reading a person's well thought out response! But what sparked me to start this discussion is because in on one of my responses, a person left a comment saying it was took long. And the funniest thing is...that was not one of my longer responses! LOL I am glad to read that I have never offended you with my religious beliefs. As I never intend to ever offend or insult others! Thank you for not holding my religion against me. I have lost friendships because of religion and it being because of the other having the discord. I do enjoy your discussions and find you to be a really great person! Thank you for being my friend. :)

I think that more people need to realize that though their spiritual beliefs are very important (for me personally my faith in Jesus is the most important thing in my life) that it doesn't mean that people with differing opinions/beliefs can't be friends. I'm glad that we are friends too ... and this really has nothing to do with your discussion so forgive me for that!!

How true that people with differing beliefs can be friends. As you know, I am a Christian whose belief means everything. I cannot BUT talk of the great love of my Saviour. He is everything to me. Having said that, some of my friends here are atheists, agnostics, pagans and even a Muslim. We enjoy intelligent, courteous discussions and share humour and friendship even though we disagree.

I've never really worried about it. I don't know if you've noticed, since my topics aren't always really wordy, but my replies are usually pretty darn wordy *laugh* I've always been the type to say something in 100 words that could probably be summed up in 10. This actually comes in really handy on Mylot, since we get paid more for on-topic, lengthy messages! *laugh* I, for one, *love* your long replies! ^_^ I always perk up so much when I get an answer to one of my topics from you. It is so refreshing to see your comments after some of the one liners that new users give. I even had one guy leave one good sentence and then _lines_ of gibberish in a topic of mine earlier today. Seriously, do people think that they can get away with that? I just don't get how they think that it won't be noticed. Anyway, I mean it. I love your replies, and am glad that your topic has given me the chance to say so!! ^_^ ^_^ And if you think that your replies are long, I bet that I can match you! LOL ^_~

That's great! ha ha I am so glad I am not the only one that feels as if I ramble or say something in 100 words when it could have been said in much less. LOL I know what you mean on wondering if people really think that they are going to get away with just pressing any key. I have seen people put like 50 periods to try to make their response longer! I really enjoy your funny news articles and love the fact that you give the link so we can read more! :) Thanks for not minding my long responses.

I swear you and I are twins because I feel the exact same way. I really enjoy reaading your responses on my discussions and others I have read because you always have intresting things to say and they make sence. In my opnion the point of mylot is to leave your opnion and they specifically ask for you to leave as many details as possible. Dont worry about it all that really matters is that you are expressing your opnion in the only way you know how. I say keep typing away and have fun doing it.

That's awesome! Thank you so much for your encouragement and telling me that you read my responses. I was really thought from time to time that some may get annoyed with my rambling on and on. I am very glad that I posted this discussion because I have gotten such wonderful feedback!!! I will keep typing and I hope you will also. Thanks so much for the encouragement and I look forward to our further discussions. :)

I admit I am rather up and down with my responses .. along with how interested I am in the discussion topic is my fibro 'problem' .. when the fibro is 'flaring' my concentration levels are really poor .. I might have some reasonable comments to make but by the time I have started writitng my reply I get half way and forget what I wanted to say .. so some of my replies are (I hope) interesting and worth a read .. but on occasions I have got muddled and ramble on without any clear point to my reply .. (ohh dear, a bit like this reply is turning out!). Because many of the discussions I reply to are linked by the MyLot 'notice emails', I rarely see other folks replies before I make my own reply .. and many of the other topics I choose to reply to a new ones, so I am the first respondent (is that actually a word?), .. but some one has to reply to a new discussion or it will lie dormant .. and I always appreciate when someone spots my new discussions and tackles them with a few words .. But the main thing that prompts my responses is how much is in my head and wanting to come out .. sometimes I can get it all into a pithy nutshell, but honestly with some discussions I feel I could end up writing a short novel heheh!!

No problems here with you Patootie! I love reading you long discussions and responses. And I don't feel that you get muddled. :) I absolutley loved your discussion on a "Free Slap" and "I had Pasta"!!! I still say I would have so totally sat there myself and watched the whole automated process! LOL And my responses are not so up to par or muttled here and there also because I suffer many migraines. But instead of always being in bed, I come to myLot to try to work through it....or else I would be in bed 90 percent of my life. :( I'm with you on the email replying also! I often do not see other's responses until I post because I am getting friends discussions from my email. :) So once I press the post button, I realize how long my response is. ha ha And yes, respondent is actually a word. ha ha That was great!

Your discussion are not really that long, the flow of words are conversational and easy to understand, I read them, there are some other discussions that are really like articles. Sometimes I find myself like you, writing long responses because there are ideas that comes to mind to share, relative to the topic being discussed. There are also times that my responses are short because it is what is called for. You must be proud of your work, they are good. You can write and express yourself well, stay with mylot, and I would not be surprise if one day, you will tell me you have written your article on something. Good luck enjoy mylot, it is a good venue to practice writting and expressing yourself.

I usually write long responses. I always read all the comments on my discussion and the single word answers are just plain boring. Do Poeple acturlly copy and paste their comments?? You can tell I am still new.

Personally I like long responses, it means the person has really thought about the subject in question and are obviously passionate about the subject too, or willing to share their personal experiences. Personal experiences do not cover one or two lines! I am not to disimilar from your good self, if it is a subject I know a lot about or it's something I can relate to having experienced it myself then there's no point giving a few lines to say yeah, I've been through that. You need to explain fully what you have experienced and that the reader gets the gist of what you have done, if that makes sense. I find what you write both interesting and informative and besides you find out more about a person this way. Their personality, what makes them tick, their history. That is what makes Mylot exciting finding out about other people's lives across the globe, how they think, their cultures and how they deal with stuff like life! So carry on with the great responses and besides you earn more and are rated more by them!

I must say again, I am glad that you feel this way also! I know that you have been subjected to my very lengthy responses. ha ha You often create very thought provoking discussions and I often get to include my life experiences and personal views on your discussions! :) And you right! It is more interesting to read a person's lengthy response because it does come across what that person is like. Which always makes the friendship here more satisfying! I enjoy reading and learning more about other people and to read the compassion of others is more reassuring that this world is not doomed. :) LOL

I don't think your responses are too long, you respond to many of mine and I always appreciate it, but I know what you mean about sometimes your responses are so long. Sometimes I find a discussion that really hits home and I start off talking about the discussion and pretty soon I have filled up the entire page with just my response, I don't copy and paste I truly do it from my heart and my life experiences and I always wonder if anybody ever reads my entire discussion or comment or go here goes texasclassygal again ... although recently I found several people that do whole pages with their discussion and I find it so hard to get through them because they do ramble on that sometimes they ask several questions throughout their discussion and I only usually read the first couple of paragraphs that strike me to comment.

I often don't write very long responses, but that's just me. Personally I LOVE it when one of my discussions gets a good, long response. It means I got that person to think about what I posted, and that's always a good thing! So my advice to you would be to keep up the good work! You aren't doing anything wrong. In fact, I would say you are doing things exactly right!

Good for you. Just like you I'm not much of a vocal person, I love to read and to write. I can put and explain my thoughts better in writing. I don't really mind if I make a lengthy post or a short ones. All I mind is I point out my peronal view as relevant as possible. I do hope those who read it understand and get what I mean.

The length of my respond or post is based upon my interest on a certain topic. If i find a topic worth discussing then i usually write lenghty responses especially if i find the topic interesting like what im doing now =). Another factor is based on my mood on a certain day, sometimes i would respond short response, but not below 2 lines because i always see to it that my minimum response should not go below 2 lines. On other occasions i find it hard to be in the mood for discussions, during this times i would usually take time to relax myself for my mind to refresh and be engage again in discussions. I agree with you that sometimes you won't notice yourself writting longer post, i don't find anything wrong with it. you should be proud of your work for a few people in this community write a long and quality post. I believe its an advantage on your part. Since a longer post have a greater chance to earn more. Be proud and good luck, see you around =).

I don't find your discussions irritating in the least. I enjoy reading them. I know what you mean about being concerned about the length, though. Sometimes I tend to ramble on, even going off topic once in a while. For this reason, I always reread my posts and edit them before submitting. If your friends don't like the way you post, I'm sure they would just take you off their friends list. I really don't see that happening, as your posts are thought-provoking and meaningful.

Your right!!! If my friends didn't like it, then I would think they would remove me. :) So maybe I shouldn't be so self conscious about how much I write! :) Thank you for your compliemtns and encouragement. :) I have my days of shorter responses...but I also have very lenthy one's too. :)

I think my responses are all different lengths, I guess it depends on the post and how I feel about it. I love to get a long answer to my own discussions though as it shows people really do have opinions on my thoughts. Sometimes I find it difficult to put into words what I'm trying to say and then I find it starts to sound as if I am rambling on and on about the same point without ever really getting to the point.

I do worry sometimes that I may ramble. For the most part some things you just can't write a paragraph about. I may not always respond either if I don't know what to say or I think I will be too short, like 'I don't know' or something like that. I like to have substance and feeling both in my discussions and my responses.;]

it really depends. it depends upon the discussion on what it requires from its readers. at times my responses are long, at times they are just short. if i have a lot to say about the discussion then i make long responses.or when i am really into the idea am conveying in my response it can be really lengthy. i try to make it long though and be informative as possible.

I try not to be too concerened with the length of my responses, just so long as it's not one or two words. Some discussions require longer responses than others and I just try to make sure that I hit all the points brought up in the original post.

I take the time to read what a person posts up there . If the subject seems interesting in some way I tend to type a lot to trying to answer what I am thinking . I would take it as a compliment to have someone type a lot rather then with just a yes or no answer .
