I feel one has to be family oriented if they are planning for kids. Their growth is rather more important than a career unless your children manage themselves. With this I started caring my child with a low profile job. Then as she started managing herself, I switched over to a new job with good perks, but infact I was late to reach the desired post but I am happy to see my child becoming the topper and all rounder.

But along with your ailing child you wanted to be aside of his/her rather than going to your office because your output in the office will also be not good. So keeping a low profile job to maintain the balance I feel is good.
