Just yesterday I received a letter in the mail from one of my older sisters. She lives several states away and we never talk. I was so pleased to get that letter. She just wanted to say hi and catch up with me since she never sees me. Made me really miss my family. I am going to get me a legal pad tomorrow and start writing her a letter back and maybe a letter to a few other people!

I have to admit, I would much rather email than sit down and scratch out a letter in pen. But I do write a letter to my brother because he is in jail and I don't want him to loose hope. That is about it. I really don't write anyone else unless is it via email.
I have gotten so spoiled when it comes to writing that I can type out a letter faster than what I can write taking a pen to paper. I have also found that I am pretty picky with pens. I don't want just any pen when I write. And when I do find the pen just for me, when I do sit down to write my brother a letter, my pen has gone MIA.
I have seven children...so there is no telling who took my pen. And then, if it were one of the little ones, I might as well forget it because by the time I find it, the pen tip is now bent! LOL I have even gone as far as keeping my pen in my purse! This way, if I want my pen, that is where it should be, right? Wrong! My partner is often looking for a quick pen and he knows I keep a pen in my purse. So he will go into my purse to get my pen...but he will not put it back! What is it with pen theives? They promise to give back your pen but in the time between the promise and the writing, they for get!!!
So, right now, my letter is over due to my brother. Nothing new....soory bro. But I can search the whole house for my pen or give up and type out a letter. ha ha I think I am going to opt to type it out. :)
So, thanks for the reminder! he he

I do still write quite a few letters every year, because I have a big family with a lot of older Great Aunts, and my Nonno and many other relatives and family friends who are without computers or even printers. So we stay in touch mainly through letters. I find it so much easier and more personal even to communicate with this part of my family by writing letters. Sometimes it's easier to put the words down that we really want to say than to say it out loud. The older generation of my father's family has a hard time saying "I love you", so it is easier for them, and for me too to be able to put it down on paper and express it that way.
I'm actually worse at writing emails than I am at writing letters, and I'm honestly not sure why. Probably because the people I would be inclined to email, I instead just pick up a phone and call them. And everyone else I just send letter to!

i do! and i'm so glad to hear someone else does, too! i love writing letters, and the pleasurable anticipation of receiving one. call it old-fashioned, but there's nothing better than receiving a mail delivered by our friendly postman.

Nowadays, letters are very seldom, due to the technology that we have today. instead of writing letters people now use e-mail or chat with them because its more convenient and fast plus if you have a webcam, you can see them also. inspite of having a computer at home, i still write letters but only for special people because its woth the time making one.

I think I will do the same thing. People don't write letters anymore. They either call or email. It is so sad. So I am going to go out and buy me some stationary and write some letters. Thanks for the idea.

I do every now and then, because I used to really enjoy it. But the price of stamps is outrageous!! Often when I want to send a letter, I don't have stamps to do it.. Heck, these days it costs me about $20 just to send out Christmas cards! I started a rule for myself that if I didn't get a card from somebody last year, they don't get one this year. LOL

Include me in that list too! Kidding. But to think about it, i think i've forgotten how to write a letter anymore these days. I used to write letters a lot when i was in boarding school. And had my "swap" group, where i used to swap posters and articles from magazines with the people i know from a column in youth newspaper. All in the form of letters and snail mails. Hmm, now people rather send emails and instant messaging.

I am afraid that I am very lazyat writing letters and I do take ages to write christmas cards. i prefer writing emails. I guess that electronic mails have taken over the normal letters.

Yeah letters sometimes, I guess are the thing of the past since most people have computers in their homes now and they tend to just email each other to save the stamp and envelopes. Same goes with Birthday cards and such. you can just send e-cards.

Letters have a powerful impact on the human emotion. I still believe that even in today's technological advances, people would still very much love to keep handwritten letters as long as they can. I am a letter writer. I have a wish: that the love letters I would be sending to my girlfriend would reach 1,000.

Yep i still do write letters....But thats only to my sweetheart i write only love letters because i feel that emotions can be expressed at the best with our own words and for them if we use our handwriting its makes the letter worth the love we have for someone
So whenever my lady's is sad or she is down or she feels insecure i tend to write her a love letter and just express all the emotions i have for her and she treasures them more then any other gift i have ever given her....
