Do u use whitening products? what kind of whitening stuff? why? alot of women are into whitening lotions and stuff. What's the big deal about trying to be fair skinned rather than have a tan look or your original asian color?

One magazine article I read a few years back said that wanting to be white is an influence of colonization.During Spanish times, people who have dark skin were laborers. So i think white skin color is a symbil of wealth.Wanting to be white are common in Asian countries. I myself wanted a fair skin when I was in my teens. So I used a lot of whitening soaps and lotions. Eventually I had big red itchy splotches on my skin, that is when I stopped using these products. I realized that I don't really want to subject myself with these harmful products. Tan is beautiful!

That is true too. I have a friend from Taiwan and she told me her mom doesnt want her to tan or even stay under the heat of the sun because they dont want to get dark. Dark skin has been associated to be the skin of farmers in their country. They think that dark skin means you're poor i guess.

Oh by the way, she also use a whitening face mask to keep her fair skin maintained. She practically put on alot of sunblock lotion for it as well. Those are the stuff she used as whitening stuff:)

I never like white color. It look dull and charmless. Myself having fair wheatish color..hmm not bad but i like uniform tan color. U know asian tan look so hot and spicy and lovely too. My mother's color is that same but unfortunately i inherited my father's color.

I guess the old saying "Man is never satisfied with what he has" holds good for our skin color as well. Im on the darker side and wish I was a lil fairer. I tend to tan too easily and hence avoid going out in the sun (unless I have to). Its just that I think i'll look a lil better (sometimes that is) with a lik fairer skin. I used to be sooo dark when I was in school as I used to spend 90% of my mornings playing the sun. But now Im ok but still hope to be a lil fairer. Hence I use the cosmetics available (preferablly the natural ones).

I used to feel that way when i was younger too Melody. I am born tan or dark or darker asian skin that is. I was used to alot of teasing growing up because i easily get dark after just minutes staying under the sun or going to the beach. 15minutes is already "cooking" me. Lol When i went to college , I started to apply Ponds whitening on my face until I realize there are alot of people who envy the color of my skin. And then my boyfriend now husband told me how beautiful i am with it, I started to believe in myself and not just because I was darker. I just comfort myself with knowing the rich people in other countries spend alot of money getting this color and I am getting it for free. Lol

I don't inderstand why some women spending a lot of time (and money too) using whitening products and otehrs spend a lot of time (and money) trying to be tanned all the time. Strange. Anyway, I like the tanned skin, I like the original asian colour.

I never do hence I never got a rich boyfriend when I was younger LOL my friends said if my skin was lighter I would get to marry rich man. My skin was lighter than yours at the time since my parents are half chinese so I am 25% chinese. You can imagine how surprised my friends are when they knew I married a white man LOL to him dark skin woman is exotic. Hollywood is responsible in making tan a popular colour, now it's common for people to get sun-tanned in the beach. Many Asian girls I met here kind of wondered how I got to marry a white man. I guess we forget that being ourselves won't hurt as much as trying to be someone else.

I don't know. I am fair skin and went to the tanning bed for years trying to get darker. As someone said, we're never satisfied.
