The basic reason for piracy is the cost of the product ,so i think i have a solution for this ,A large population in India owns Pc ,but how many of them use genuine software ,not even 20% ,if the prices are around 5000 rs approx for the software (windows vista) and rs 150 for the illegal copy then wats going to happen ,so if Mr. bill gates drops the prices for abt 500 rs approx ,no one will buy the illegal copy and everyone will use the genuine one ,sounds difficult but the amount of population using PC does that ,it will be great for Mr. Bill Gates, he will mint more money ,resulting in more charity

the main solution to this is that strict checking should
be carried in order to check piracy which is done by the police
which are instead given bribe in order to continue with
piracy

ur thougts r worth a look at but Indian Mentality is that even still y shld we pay for what is available free... even though Windows price is reduced people will still pirate office application... so they wld require a pirated version of OS for it... think of how much Mr. bill will loose his bill on reducing the price...

Dont expect Microsoft to reduce the price of Microsoft Windows. Just recently when Tamil Nadu government decided switch over to Linux, Microsoft official met the concerned government authority to stop this move. Government asked them to reduce the price to Rs 500, but they were not ready. In such a situation to remove piracy the only option is to make people use free softwares either open source or closed source software. Educate them the ill effects of piracy and make them either buy original copy or to use free softwares.
