Hey guys and gals, we are going on a long trip soon and my dog is quite nervous when we get on the freeway and the big trucks drive by.
Do you have any suggestions on what would be safe to give to my dog to make the journey more pleasant.
She is 7 years old
She is 3 1/2 pounds
She loves to travel but does not like the big trucks going past and she sits and vibrates and finally she works herself into a panting frenzy. No amount of cuddling will work, I need something that will chill her out!
thanks

Have you considered talking to her vet? My dog takes antidepressants that are actually a human rx but the vet perscribes them for my cosmo because he has anxiety and when he gets nervous he pees on people. They may have something to ease her anxiety. My dad's dog takes something like this. Also have you seen those small dog car seats they are adorable. They can rest either in the seat with the seat belt or they even have them that connect to the center console so your pet can see out the window. Also, if she has any toys or blankets that put her at ease those would be great to bring along. my cosmo is the same way he does not like to leave the house even to go outside.

I just got a new puppy a few months ago. We drove 9 hours to pick him up. My daughter got him for me. We stopped at rest stops to let him potty and he was so scared that he would not use the bathroom. He just stood there and shivered. I felt so sorry for him. About 5 hours into the trip, we stopped to eat at a restaurant and I noticed a field a short distance away. I took him and he used the bathroom. I think that the noise of the vehicles and the scents of all those other dogs upset him till he wouldnt use it at the rest stop.
We now take his crate and put it in the back seat. We keep the door open but he stays in it while we are on the road. I think the safty of his familiar space helps to keep him from getting nervous. He is now 6 months old.
You could always find a church yard to let him potty. Does he have a crate that is his own personal space?
