The meaning of Thoughtless

When I first heard the song and saw the video, I thought it was just about bullying.
But after reading the lyrics a few times, I think it may have something to do with the columbine shootings.
I dunno, what do you think?

If you go to the link below, there are a few theories as to what the song is about. The columbine theory is brought up, but I don't think it's limited to just that instance. I think it's more of a general statement more than addressing a certain a specific instance.

Yeah, I read through a few comments on that website, I guess I'm not the only one who looks beneath whats in front of me when reading a piece of creative text like that.

It's not that I am am not analyzing the lyrics - I just get the feeling that he's making a generalized statement about the problem as a whole. Not just one school shooting, but school shooting in general. It's possible to read between the lines and not come to one specific outcome.
