Mylot Question, Why Can't We Edit Our Discussions?

United States
January 22, 2007 12:22pm CST
I published a discussion last night for a gift in a jar recipe and forgot one of the most important ingredients. I had to email or other wise contact everyone on who commented on the discussion with the corrected version. This took alot of time! My question is "Why can we not edit ourown discussions after we publish them?" This would make such errors so much easier to deal with. Have you found times when you need to edit your discussions? Do you think this shoud be an added option for mylot?

Yes, It should be added as an option. And, yes, I have needed to do it a number of times. Also a spell check would be nice. Until that time though, try to hit the preview response first, and if it looks right, then hit post response. If we email MyLot about this, perhaps they will do that. What do you think?

if you use mozilla firefox browser means you have inbuilt spell check option.i think you are using internet explorer. If they give edit option means i think one problem will hapen see they pay you all your post then you edit all your post with one line or empty means how they retireve your money from you? may be this reason they are not give us edit options

I did contact them yesterday. Hope they see the need and feel that it would be a good addition to the site.

That and our comments. I have posting something just to find a typo! Definitely should be added.

That is the only thing that I do not like about mylot. I hate those typos that keep staring at me...saying "you made a mistake and now the whole world will see it" lol

Remember that when you post your discussions immediately persons are responding to it then if you had the ability to edit the responses that would have came in they probably would be wrong. I think also people would abuse it because they may post something about cats then once they get alot of responses they then change it and post about something totally different like dogs.

I agree that this should be an option and already suggested it to myLot but they declined my suggestion. They do not feel that it is needed and have no plans on putting this into place. It would be nice if we could edit our mistakes as I have made some mistakes with mine as well. It would save us time from having to message everyone or recreate the post.

Well, I guess that answers the question.. Mylot don't see the need for us to edit our posts. I was afraid that would be the answer, because they are probably afraid that someone who had broken the rules with their post would then go back and edit it before the proof could be 'caught'. I too agree that it would be really nice if we could edit, though. There have been a few times where I have also really wished that I could delete a few things that I wrote here on Mylot, entirely, thinking about who might run across them one day. Not that I said anything bad, just that there are certain not so close friends of mine whom I wouldnt' want reading certain things that are kind of personal. But then, it's my own fault for posting that kind of thing on a public forum, and I realize that. I just wish that we had the option.

I contacted them yesterday and hope they will reconsider. I had no idea someone had previously contacted them concerning the editing of discussions

I have questioned this too. But I think it is because myLot has not figured out a way for us to do so without getting credit for an edit. Once we post a response or a person responds to our discussion, we increase with one point to our rating. If we edited it, would this could towards another credit to our rating? And if it did, people would see that as a way to cheap by creating several discussions and then editing it to repost for most credits to their rating. I am sure that myLot has probably taken this into consideration and are probably working on it. After all, we used to not be able to delete private messages or pictures from our profiles. :) Sorry that you had such a problem with your recipe! :( I too have wished that I could edit a posting because I have made mistakes. :(

Are you a member of gather? I love it also. We can edit our conversations on it as often as we need to and we can delete our comments also. I love this option. It eliminates typo's and makes for a better conversation.

I totally agree! Though my thought is that is what the preview response button is for! There is an edit function there when chosen. Though I have had reason to want to edit my discussion once made! So hoping this site hears us and makes it a little better for us to manipulate properly!!

i do the same thing, and i would like to be able to delete some-once in awhile i start a topic that was already discussed and i didn't mean to do it-but have no choice but to leave it there.

I really feel that editing tool can be a real asset to my discussions. I am so bad at catching my mistakes till I reread them the next day.

This question has been raised before, and the general concensus of opinion was that nobody really understands why we do not have this option. It makes perfect sense that a member should be allowed to edit their own post. Not only does this make the rectifying of simple mistakes easier, but it would also provide the opportunity to add a postscript if circumstances changed after the original post.

it absolutely should! i've stated this before...for various reasons we need to be able to go back and modify something if need be..whether it be spelling, additions, etc...i think this is another much needed feature of mylot that would make things easier for us...thank you for bringing this up!

I agree. I think that this would be a lot easier than having to email all the people who reply on the discussion.

I am still trying to email them as they comment on my article about the correction. I hate it. I feel so foolish. I dont want them to make the cookies and ruin them though. That would be a lot of ingredients that would be wasted.

It would be helpful. I usually just post any additions / corrections as a comment.

I did this when I found that I had not typed in one of the ingredients and I found that many people do not read all or in some cases any of the comments. So this did not solve my problem with the missing ingredient

Without a doubt this should be added.....and as soon as possible. I try to review everything I do before posting but sometimes you just can catch everything until it is too late. Another feature that is sorely needed...at least by me...is a spell checker. With both these features I would hope it would be much eaiser to read everyones post. However they do have both option on Yahoo Answers and it seems to make little differance. But as you can see I sure could use it.

hi villageanne. i think it would be a great idea to add this feature to mylot as i myself didsomething similar the other day. i was writing a post which required a link. so i typed it in and posted the message. looked back on it a couple of minutes later and realised i had put hyyp instead of http for the link! i posted the proper link on a comment but it is not guaranteed that everyone will see this anyway, good idea!

Villeageanne - could you repost the corrected recipe. I printed out the one you put out there, I am not sure if I commented on it, I thought I did, but I did not get a correction e-mail from you. I would really appreciate it. Thanks and you are right...there should be a way to edit it or even replace it with a correction. Maybe different fonts for edits and the strikethough would be good.

You can only edit before you post. I feel that is a problem with MyLot. We should have the ability to edit once an article is posted.

Thats also my question before it also happened to me when I post and I saw that I forgot to post the most important question and words and I really want to go back and edit my discussion but it was already posted so some of people who responded ask what I'am asking. I feel sorry for that. Maybe Mylot should also allow us to edit our post.

i have found many times where i needed to change something on a post but realized it too late. I also know that sometimes a person changes their opinion on something so it is important to be able to change or delete something you post. Maybe if enough people post about this subject the creaters of mylot will make it possible.
