I read in this article that your shouldnt let your babies and small children cry for more than 10 minutes at a time, because its can cause brain damage. This happens due to the fact that when they are crying it cuses stress on them and causes their blood pressure to increase and then its not enough cirulation into the head and brain, thats what causes brain damage. Now i know some people may say " ohhh dont worrie about they will be fine and you just have to let them cry their selves away sometime" well sorry but thats wrong, and every one should know its common sense that a baby dosent just cry for no reason so dont think that because its always a reason for the crying.

I don't believe you should let a baby cry it out or cry themself to sleep, but there are times when the baby is being held/loved and is still crying. Sometimes its going to take more then 10 minutes to calm a baby down. It all depends on the baby. I have never heard of this and I don't believe that after 10 minutes of crying it can cause brain damage. If this was true, it be on the news world wide. Doctors would be telling the parents this news. Why is it that this information hasn't been released if this is so true? Come on now, it's been years and year and year of babies crying more then 10 minutes. It's normal for a baby to cry. 10 minutes isnt even much at all.

I don't believe it either. My son had colic and cried for hours at a time. There have been days that my baby now has cried for over 20 minutes straight at almost a full out scream because I just couldn't find anything wrong with her so had no way to calm her. I doubt she is brain damaged. Neither is my son--he is very smart.
I think it is more propaganda to keep people from trying to let their babies cry it out.

Children have cried for more than 10 minutes for centuries and have shown no ill effects.
The information in the article is probably using information that doesn't include the fact that many children who cry for more than 10 minutes have some disorder already, which is WHY they can sustain that sort of crying. Most children will cry for about 5 minutes if they are in need. If they are truly ill they may cry longer but it is not the type of crying that causes physical distress.
To maintain the brain damaging level of crying, the activity has to be that "full tilt boogie" sort of wailing. A baby will tire and fall asleep before 10 minutes are up due to the energy used.

Where did you read this article? It isn't true. Now, you shouldn't let a baby under a certain age just sit and cry because it is crying for a reason. Eventually kids learn though that crying is how they can get attention (and their way). To be honest, some adults cry for attention too. Once a child is a bit older, it is fine to let them cry it out.
If crying was the cause of brain damage, one could argue that emotional people are more than likely severely brain damaged from all the crying done in their life...

i second the point that there are many people who are poor and cannot afford to stay with their babies all the time, so they have to go in search of labor , taking babies with them . While the parents are doing their job they dont actually bother when the baby is crying unless its really prolonged. And most of those babies grow up normally.
There might be some scinectific reason behin what the author has posted, but it isnt very practical

Hi
Babies learn at a very early stage that crying attracts attention!!
Some learn it faster than others!!
If you respond to the baby every time it cries, you will have a full time job!!!
There is nothing wrong with letting a baby cry for a while. If there is something wrong with the baby you will soon know, the "cry" will be totally different, believe me!!
Some of the articles that you read in magazines and the like really do make you wonder sometimes who the hell writes them!!
Supposed to be "experts" !!!
The best experts there are to advice you, are your parents!!
They have "Been there and done it"
Listen to them!

well if u read the information above it says that it can cause brain damage because when the baby is crying it causes stress and cause the blood pressure to rise and then, its not enough circulation in the brain for the blood flow and this is what causes the brain damage. It is possible that it may not happen to every single baby thats pretty obvious come on really but in some cases it can...so every one should be careful

There might be some danger to it but I don't think so, when my son was a baby he had colic and would start crying every evening about 5:00pm and nothing would soothe him I tried everything! and he would eventually stop about 9:00pm, that was rough for the first three months. It definitly did not affect him in any way.

My brother who actually has a baby told me so. That's why he tried to calm his baby down when the baby cried for too long. They let him cry a bit but not too long. However, I hear a lot of babies cry for a long time. They are so helpless. I feel mercy for them. Well, it is their way of expressing themselves. So, for adults, they should be as responsive as possible to the needs of the babies.

well you can't be a parent or if you are you are bringing up a book baby. you know a "don't touch this or don't touch that" kind of child. I've got four children. 3 out of the four children i have let them cry it out. it's a proven fact that crying is good not only for the body but for the soul. Don't go preaching about children crying when you don't know first hand. My oldest is 7 and they want to skip him up a grade and i said no way to that fact. My second is 5 and he can show you a thing or two when it comes to computers and my 3rd isn't even 2 years old yet and carries on better conversations with me then most poeple here can think to do. And i let them all cry them selves out.

babies cry harder when they require somthng such as milk from its mother. if it cries for more than 10 min then it would lead to wastage of energy for getting energy(from milk).this ma be one of the reasons why most infants die.

That seems to be a lil ridiculous, babies cry...thats the only way they can communicate displeasure and need and if the parents cannot identify the need the crying can continue for 10 minutes or more....give these scientests a reason and they will find some fault or the other in it. Give them time and you will soon hear that babies should not be bathed for the first week, they should be allowed to play in their poo..and loads of other silly irrelevant stuff
