How old was your baby when you started to first give them a sippy cup ? mine will not drink from a bottle but has now started to drink from a sippy cup at 6 months. i didn't think that she would but she was taking an interest in my bottle of water so i decided to give it a shot and LOW and BEHOLd!!! she liked it and has even since tried to start holding it up to her mouth all by herself!

None of my kids ever got the hang of the sippy cup as babies or toddlers because they liked the bottle too much and then did pretty well with a cup later on but my sister's baby is just starting the sippy cup at 6 months too and he likes to chew on it!lol

My little one has been drinking out of a cup since one. The moment she turned one I took all of the bottles out of sight. She has not seen one since. It was very hard to get her into it. But atleast she is now. I know someone who let their kid run around with bottles at 2. Good job for your little one! She is very smart

both of my children were also off the bottle by the time they were 1. I'm a child care worker and it's not unusual to see 3 year olds still having bottles, one mother actually told me that she keeps giving it to her son because she doesn't want him to grow up....pleeeaaassseee, I think that is just sad. He was four before it was gone.

My goodness! no 3 year old should have a bottle still! that's just wrong. they should be nearly on their way to regular cups by then!

I am having the opposite problem with my son. He plays with his sippy cup, rather than drink from it. :( I am trying to get him to drink from the sippy cup more than from his bottle. :( I am trying though. Is she your first baby? :)

She is my first, and my husbands second. How old is he ? she plays with it quite a bit too, but i showed her how to drink from it, drinking from it myself, and then putting it to her mouth. she only drinks a little at a time, but she's still drinkin from it! Your son is probably just trying to get used to it. I got one one with Handles on each side so that it was easier for her to pick up and handle herself.

Yea except she doesn't have any interest in trying to stand yet. she just lets her legs go limp whenever she touches the floor with her feet. lol. all in good time i guess ;)

Awwww..she's too cute for words. I forget exactly when mine both started sippy cup stage, but I know that I gave them empty ones pretty early until they realized that it was for drinking from, and then they started putting it to their mouths, so I started putting stuff in it. For each child it's different, but most say around 6 - 8 months. :)

I put water in them from the start because for some reason she LOVES the sound of water! doing the dishes, showering, washing hands, toilet flushing, even when i pee! she just laughs and smiles. I dont know why but glad she's a happy baby!

my kid started to use the sippy cup when she was 4 months old.but during those times i have to be with her to hold it.after 8 months she started to have it by herself.noe she just completed one and tries to take liquids from the ordinary cups.Better to give cups to them as though we clean the bottles yet there are possibility of infections.

Aww thats so cute. I don't have any children, but I worked in a childcare center for 3 years and I found that quite a few of the babies had sippy cups by 6 months old. Some took longer than that to hold it up to their mouths though.

My little man started on his sippy cup right as he turned 6 months old too. I believe, if they show an interest, might as well let them try. Only they know when and what they're ready for.

That's terrific! My daughter was totally hooked on her bottle and refused to even try a cup until she was 2 yrs old. At that point, I threw out all the bottles and just let her scream it out. It was horrible. With my son, he didn't show much interest until he was about a year old. At that point, they had just come out with the no-spill/no-drip cups, so that was terrific for us.

That is really cute . I couldn't wait for mine to be on a sippy cup just because I found the bottle would leak much more then with the sippy cups . My last was the hardest to put on the sippy , she was over a year old before she would agree to take it . But now she is a year and a half old and has taken a big interest out of drinking from a normal glass so I would like to try her with this at meal time .I would say the youngest any of mine were before they used a sippy was probably about 7 or 8 months , can't really remember anymore . All these cute things they do and we end up forgetting when they outgrow that stage .

It is really good to know such a magnificent achievement as you have got. Surely your baby is growing & your parenting is proper. Your baby is comfortable & likes to do things now. Pamper your baby more & play & sing songs to your baby. As of me I do not have a baby but I have lots of knowledge onthis account. And regarding you, you are surely a good mother.

My son was 5 months old when he was drinking from a sippy cup. My youngest is 10 months old and we gave her a sippy at around 5/6 months but she had no interest in it until recently. Now she drinks like a champ. She can also drink from a normal cup and from a straw if we let her.

You are lucky that she is drinking from a sippy cup so soon. Most mothers have a hard time weaning them off the bottle. My daughter didn't start drinking from a sippy cup until she was 1 year old. She did not want to give up her bottle. She did not like drinking water, she always asked for milk or juice. So I started putting only water in her bottle. Whenever she asked for milk or juice I would only give it to her in a sippy cup. So that is how I got her to give up her bottle.

My oldest was 7 months when I introduced a sippy and he loves them although he still has his bottle at 2.5 but there are health reasons for that. He has a digestive disorder that requires certain amount of calories and such per ounce and that is the only way to get him to take enough nutrition. I fight him all the time but to no avail. My youngest only takes a sippy and he is almost a year. He has been on sippys since he was 4 months old. I was not going to do the BOTTLE thing again! Jennifer

Having a baby is a wonderful experience as long as your ready for all the responsibility and stuff that goes along with it. It helps to have lots of family support too. unless they are pushy. then it makes things worse!

my daughter was just a couple of months after she turned 1 when i switched her over to a sippy cup. she had a hard time sucking hard enough through the regular cups and didn't understand to tip it up. what i did was bought the cups with the straw and those worked great.
