Do you think there should be cameras in classrooms? I heard a story once that a man always taped his lectures for students who were absent. By the end of the year the camera was forgotten because it was such a part of the room. A girl in class was failing and told him that she would accuse him of touching her if he didn't give her a better grade. He said that would not be a good idea and he wasn't giving her a better grade. She went through with it. When he was asked about the situation...he had the girl on tape saying she was going to do that to him. I think cameras in the classroom are a great idea...just to avoid stuff like this.

Like everything else, a knife, a razor, a rake a camera is a tool.
It can be a great teachers aide or a snoop's stock in trade.
There are many positive benefits to recording classroom proceedings, including a review capability for teachers to improve their classroom skills.
I record my speech practice, before I speak in public and use it to improve my delivery. Beats speaking in front of the mirror like Abraham Lincoln did!

I think that would be a great idea, plus with all the violence at school, cameras will provide a better picture of events taking place in the classes.

I have to agree those would be nice to have for a variety reasons. One of course as you pointed out for the protection of the teacher as well as the student. Lot harder for someone to do something if it will be on film.
The other is if someone misses a class or something they can then view it if need be. It would allow students who are ill with somethng that keeps them out for awhile to catch up far better then just doing book work. It would be an advantage for them as well.

I think that would be a good idea. Maybe it would keep the violence in the classrooms down. And like in the story it would keep the teachers from getting in trouble by lies that students tell. It would also show if a teacher did something to a student that was unacceptable.

Wow, what a horrible testament to today's society :(.
I would like to see cameras in the classroom. I think they would serve a multitude of purposes. They could be used to help the teachers see where they need to improve. The cameras could be used in instances where the parents refuse to believe that little Johnny smacked litte Timmy in class and should not be punished. They could also be used to ensure that special needs kids were getting the services mandated for them in their IEPs.

Yes! This will be great idea! In this situation, the student is the one who did something bad. But there could be cases where teachers can do bad stuffs. Either way, cameras are a great idea not just to avoid cheaters but bad happenings like this.

Hmm, that's a pretty funny situation there.
I think cameras in classrooms would be ok, but they would have to be school provided. No way I'd bring my expensive camera up there just to have a kid steal it. Some parents want their child to tape record the lessons, but we all refuse because the parent could easily take something we say out of context and turn it against us...simply because they can't SEE us, they can only hear us.

Well this is a good idea to stop such a nuisance but still everything has its pros and cons so does a camera. If a student has a camera then he can take pictures of girls, even a lecturer and can misuse it for his own purpose. Now for eg: if a person has camera and he tapes what she said to the teacher.he could then blackmail her of submitting it to the principal...and then the girl might not have any option than to do what that guy says.So it is a good idea only if it is kept under supervision of someone of trust.
Well it can help students to get the notes anytime from net or from friends who have the copy of that lecture which he wants.thats a great idea but need to be under security. In all you can say that cameras are a great idea in a classroom.

they once put camras in our classroom... it worked out quite well. the studentused to behave well , the teachers were on time and the principle was able to talk with student directly through the camera....though it was one sided....
but some student broke some camera without showing there face in the in many classes after school... this led to removel of the cemares...so i think it is a good idea!!!!!

I can't see where the camera could do any harm. In this case it worked out good for the teacher, had not it been for the camera, he could and probably would have lost his job. He also would have been faced with the shame and humilation that would have been brought upon him and his family. I would say it is a great idea to have cameras in the class, why not? This could be a protection for both students and teachers. There shouldn't be anything going on in the classroom that cannot be taped.

I guess yes they are helpful such as the above case but then again I dont think its that good an idea because one is keeping the students always on their toes as theyr ebing constatntly watched and as a student I would miss all the fun that goes on when the teacher turns to write on the board

I think cameras are a good idea. With all the fights and shotting in the schools this past year. It would help to put a stop to alot of things.

I think that it is a really good idea, as well. Especially with the school shootings and other horrible things that happen at some schools nowadays, it's just a good preventive measure. Maybe kids will think twice about doing something really bad if they have an idea that they will be caught on film if they try it.

i absolutely agree. if cameras were made to stay in all school systems alot of stuff would be cut down on. the teasing the vulgar language and the threatening. i wished the school my kids go to had them...if they had a vote on it id be first on the list :)

Before thinking of the solution to a problem think about the origin of the problem. Why that girl behaved like that and why she want better score than her knowledge. Try to solve like this. And having a camera in the class room will make the students to think to do it in a different way.
