I am by nature a tidy person, my husband is just the opposite. I think there are a number of things that people should do without having to be asked.
If you make a huge mess in the toilet you clean it.
If you decide to eat dinner in the loungeroom bring your dishes back into the kitchen when you finish with them.
Why not help with the washing up?
Don't leave used cups or partially used bottles of soft drink all over the house.
Don't put your wet towels onto the bed, particularly on my side of the bed, that is what the towel rail is for.
Switch off lights, fans etc when you leave the room.
Learn to replace the toilet roll yourself
Further to this I am not the only person who is capable of knowing how to operate the dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. Nor am I the only person capable of vacuuming, ironing, dusting, hanging out clothes, making beds, scrubing floors and cleaning the bathroom.

It certainly does make life easier when everyone in the family does their part to keep the home clean. I teach my children to clean up after themselves.
As far as my husband goes, he's gotten more helpful over the years. When we were first married I was always picking up after him and it really bothered me. I'm glad that he started to see how much extra work he was creating for me.
Now he does put his dishes in the sink and put the dirty clothes in the hamper and things like that. If he does leave things messy then I clean up after him without fussing. Because he contributes to our family in so many other ways that I think it's wrong to criticize him for not being the neatest person on the planet.

I think you really covered all the bases. I agree with you whole heartedly. The adage a stitch in time saves nine. Most things just take a couple of minutes to do (the small things that add up until they are a big mess and tten it takes a lot longer than that). B Much better if yoy do instaed of letting ot pile up.

Yahoo! I agree wholeheartedly. And there is nothing that irks me more than when I am cleaning up and someone who lives here says "Is there something I can help with?" Clearly if you live in this house, you know what needs to be done! If things are untidy, clean them up. Nobody ever has to tell me what needs to be done! Great discussion.
