King Thranduil of Mirkwood and Glorfindel of the house of Elrond would have to be my favourite, Thranduil because he was the leader of the wood elves and he was a good king, other than that i don't know why i like Thranduil so much. Maybe because he was not as stupid as his father (Oropher) rushing into the batlle at the last alliance.
I like Glorfindel because he was one of the few that could ride openly agaist the Nazgul (at the time), also he was a great swordsmen. He led the elves from Rivendell in the battle of fornost and helped save Frodo at the Ford of bruinen. BTW i am talking about Glorfindel in the third age, not Glorfindel elf lord of Gondolin in the 1st age.

My favorite character has to be great Wizard Gandalf. He has it all: smarts, character, and is not bad of a warrior himself.
He was sent to Middle-earth to defeat evil. Unlike the rest of his brethren, that's exactly what he did.
He also is the mythological element in LotR. He's been around since the creation of Arda and that's got to count for something.

Radagast didn't do his duty. He didn't fight Sauron the Necromancer as he was told to. He retreated to nature.

hmmm....i don't have a favorite character....aragorn...legolas..the hobbits...gandalf...the dwarf...even boromir...i like them all...if they could unite somehow...they would be PERFECTION : strenght(aragorn) , defensive(dwarf) , intelligence(gandalf) agility(legolas) party guys (hobbits) and ... you might not respect my decision... WEAKNESS(boromir)

for me it would be tom bombadil(sorry if their is spelling mistake). he was the only one on whom the ring would have no effect at all. he even played with it like it was nothing. if their was one who was most powerful it was him. though his power were limited to his forest only but they were still vast.
the second favourite character would be aragon. he assited gandalf in many missions. he together with the dunedain protected shire lands and later took part in the battles of middle earth and help defeat sauron so in all the character of viggo mortenson was not full account of the vast work aragon had done for the people.

well, i like all the elves. especially Legolas. the reasons are probably because, first and foremost, Legoals was played by orlando bloom. second would be how the character is so smart, witty, far seeing, listens to the earth, knows tracking, and of course arching!!

Ofcourse the lighthearted, most brave and dynamic legolas is my favourite character in LOTR.Also he is an elf who are the fairest and wisest of all creatures.
One of the most awesome fight int he battle of middle earth is at the battle of minastirith, wherin we can see that legolas climbes on a big maamoth and fights with it and kills it.It shows how in adverse situations as well he can handle tht things properly.
Also gimilli and legolas have this number rivalry between them as to ewho kills maximum enemies.
But legolas makes a wise decision to kill the maamoth, though he's count of enemies kiled becomes lesser as compared to gimmili because even a huge maamoth killed is counted as a single enemy killled.it shows how cool loegolas is even in adverse situations moreover it is the trio legolas, aragon and gimmili who make a wonderful team

Personally, I think Glorfindel of Gondolin is the same as Glorfindel of Imladris. I know there's controversy over that, but even the Professor liked the idea so I'm going with that. I really don't know who's my favorite though...I guess I have a lot of favorites. Glorfindel is one. Elladan and Elrohir are others. Eomer. Heck, even Halbarad. I think I tend to prefer the smaller characters that only have a few mentions because those little bits really whet the imigination, do you know what I mean?
