What is the longest trip you have ever taken by car?

Here in the UK we don't really make very long car journeys .. and when we do it's really tiring as our roads are not that good .. and most roads never seem to go in a straight line for more than a few hundred metres .. the motorways aren't too bad but they still don't go directly from town to town .. Where my sister lives in Australia there are roads that go in a straight line for miles and miles .. you can literally travel for an hour or more before you need to turn a corner .. Have you got good roads to travel along and have you ever taken a really long trip ..

Well if I could count my big Scotland driving trip last year? All in all going from my home up to the Lake District, the west coast of Scotland right up to the top and including the whole of Isle of Skye, across the top to John O Groats and then back down again on the East Coast via Inverness, Edinburgh, Sunderland, Cleethorpes, Lowestoft, I covered 2000 miles in total! The longest trip I did in a day was from home to the Lake District I travelled at 9pm Sunday night and reached Morecambe for my first pitstop at 3am with a couple of stops for petrol etc... I prefer driving at night, less traffic on the roads. I loved every minute, being on my own, the freedom and being a free spirit!

We went to Las Vegas last year driving 1300 miles. I guess it's a preety long journy by car. It was fun. Road conditions are good and straight. You can go miles without taking a turn. We were passing through Colorado, the scenery was so good both side of road. That made our journy wonderful.

I have driven 3,000 miles with seven kids by myself. I would say that is a long trip!!! But the roads were not so bad. The highways look as if they are straight but they are not really. I hated the fact that at times I would be driving away from my destination because that was how the road went. But it really wasn't that bad for turns. What was bad was traveling alone with seven kids! ha ha Just when I got into a highly populated city and the roads were packed with people flying all over the place, I explained to the kids that they couldn't be making a bunch of noise and fighting because I needed to concentrate on driving and make sure that I didn't take the wrong turn onto the wrong highway. Would you know it, this is when a child decided to get car sick and not just get sick...she got sick all over the two other children beside her!!! And she had a bucket! I couldn't pull over because there were too many cars to pull over and there was no shoulder to pull over on! The only thing that I could do was drive and hope that my older son could handle it. ha ha My sweet pre-teen son had to hold the bucket for the younger to finish getting sick. Then strip the two younger children of their clothes and get them dressed in the only clothes that I had in the car for them. While my pre-teen son sat there in boxers because his clothes were in the car carrier on the roof. My poor kids! The car smelled horrible but they weathered the wind in exchange for the smell until I could stop at the best place possible.....an hour later!!! Well, if I could trade the twists and turns for car sick kids...I would take the twists and turns. :)

When I was married we lived in Germany for just over three years so each year we would drive back to Uk to see the family. Thats driving through Germany and Holland catch the overnight ferry then drive to Norfolk. It would take nearly 24 hours with stopping for Drinks, meals and Kids loo breaks.

Six hours from here to New York... It's interesting, because I really only live two hours from New York. But the driver had to pick up about a thousand people on the way. It was horrible service. I take Greyhound now.

My husband gripes everytime we travel because we live in a mountainous region. He often says "Why don't they make a straight road or go through the mountain". When we happen upon a road that is straight he loves it.

Well I was tyring to think which was the longest I've taken. I've gone from Michigan (near Detriot) down to Florida (near Orlando) and back. I've also gone from Michigan out to Montana and I've gone from Florida out to Montana. I think that last one would be the longest drive wise but not sure. They all seemed so long to me, of course I was a passenger all the times and not the driver. That might be the difference.

The longest trips I can think of offhand were when my ex and I were still married, and she was working in Portland, Oregon, and I was working in Austin, Texas-- and I would sometimes drive up to see her. It was 2200 miles (about 3500km) door to door, and generally took me aboout 4 days. The Interstate (motorway) highway systems in the US are pretty good, but you get areas where the surface is incredibly poor from winter weather, and it's like driving for hours on a washboard. When I was a kid, living in Denmark, we'd sometimes pack everything in the car and drive to the south of Spain. That was a pretty long trip, too-- probably close to 3000km.

One of the longest car trips i've taken was when my family and i went to Colorado. We live in Michigan. It took us about 18 hours drive. A very very long trip. We had a mini van so it was comfortable, we took the middle seats out so we could have a place to nap in between. I think we only stayed at a hotel once, half way during the trip. Then after Colorado, we drove up to Wyoming and South Dakota. My first trip out West. Also another one was from Michigan to New York City. That wasn't that bad maybe 9 hours, but we stopped in PA along the way. Also drove down to Disneyworld too. I've never been on a plane yet, but planning to this summer.

Makes our 'little' UK trips seem a doddle .. I whinge about having to drive 48 miles to the coast .. but it's a nice drive most of the way .. it's just the twisting turny English roads that make it seem such a long trip ...

A bout 10 years ago I decided I wanted to move out to the west coast to be closer to my sister. It took 3 days driving 15 hours a day to get there. Boy was my butt sore. From now on if I want to see my sister I will take an airplane.

The longest car trip I took was from NY to NC to the beaches! Oh my--- We left on a thursday planning to drive half of it the first night-- and finsih up early the next day! We only got 2 hours out of our town-- It snowed so bad! It was Easter break. We ended up driving the better part of the next day! It was heaven when we got there-- Sunny beaches of NC-- it was the first time that my daughter and myself had been to an ocean! We spent hours on the beach the first night! then we met up with my brother and family the next day and spent a week on the beach! Total drive time was 18 hours! one way!!! It was so worth it!

I guess the longest run I have made was from Birmingham to Scotland to attend a wedding. Thank goodness for the motorways, it was a very long run for me, and it seemed even longer coming back the following day

I love long road trips, and every year we travel from Ohio to Florida. It's over 900 miles, and we usually do it without stopping for the night. It takes about 12-14 hours depending on traffic jams in places where construction or road repair is going on. The best part of the trip is driving through the mountains in West Virginia. It's beautiful, but kind of scary because everyone drives so fast. We do go for a long way without turning. I would love to drive across the country to the west coast someday. I've only been there traveling by plane, and a lot is missed that way.

I once did a three day trip around the western quadrant of the north island. I slept in my car when I got too tired to drive. It was one of the most fun journeys I have done. Someday I shall get me a Van and spend a whole summer touring the south island of New Zealand. After all, I ought to see my own country before I go overseas!
