Well with so many nationalities in this forum I thought it would be fun to name some of the words that we use differently in our various countries. I live in the US for a couple of months and in the UK for nearly a year and many times I'd find myself trying to explain what I just said. For example in the US and Canada they say candy where as in Australia we say lollies and just to confuse me in the UK they say sweets lol! What are some more differences between counbtries? Another I can think of is biscuits, what we call biscuits in Oz in the US they call cookies, but what the US call as biscuits we call them scones :P
Cantelope we call Rock melon.
Red/Green bell peppers we call capsicum.
Thongs we wear on our feet in the summer, in other countries it's a skimpy womens underwear lol!

In the UK a barbie is a doll, in australia its a BBQ
football, for most would mean the game that you kick a ball with your feet, in USA and Australia its a game in which you throw the ball around using your hands
a buttie is a sandwich in the UK, everyone else just gets confused
a pomme: to you aussies its an Englishman to the french its an apple
Victory: to the English its not losing to the aussies its total destruction

One that confused me the first time I heard it when I was kid... Was watching an anmerican tv show and someone said about someone falling on thier fanny, it took me a few minutes to work out they meant bum, in the uk it usually refers to the other side.
One that use to confuse my friends in Wales with was piece, I would just "just going to get a piece" and they would ask 'a piece of what?' a piece in Scotland is a sandwich.
