A gulf is a part of the ocean that is partly surrounded by land. A gulf cuts into the shoreline. It is similar to a bay, but a gulf goes farther inland than a bay does.
A gulf is also bigger than a bay.
The Gulf Coast region of the United States comprises the coasts of states which border the Gulf of Mexico.
The states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida are Gulf Coast states.
The Gulf Coast is sometimes referred to as the "third coast".

A gulf is a body of water covered by land on three sides. One interesting feature of a gulf is that there is only one entry and one exit. A bay is the same, except that it is much smaller.
A geographic antonym to a gulf would be peninsula, which is a body of land with water on three sides.
Some of the famous gulfs in the world are:
The Gulf of Mexico
The Gulf of Aden
The Persian Gulf (The Arabs want to call it the Arabian gulf)
Cheers.
