Most people mean well, but sometimes they just give the stupidest advice.

When I was struggling to set up my business, a couple people told me I should get "a real job". Their advice wasn't solicited, I didn't take it and everything worked out fine. (Don't know what they thought I was doing 50/60 hours a week if it wasn't a real job)

I've heard that same advice before as well. That would probably be the worst advice I heard as well. Unfortunately I followed it. It cost me eight years of my life pursuing something I did not want to do. Finally I had had enough and changed careers and haven't looked back.

I don't thing the job advice is all that well meaning either. I think it's usually from people who are stuck and want to make sure everybody else gets stuck too. At least mine was.

Worst advice I ever got was to take a 1 year break from college. All you readers out there that might be considering it, DON'T!!! A whole lot can happen in a year that will be an obstacle in going back. That year can turn into years & years. Ok, soapbox spiel is over.

My wife did the same thing and still hasn't gone back. I think it gets harder as the years go by. Thanks for the soapbox spiel, I feel cleaner already.

It does get harder. I went back last summer after 16 years. Maintaining an A average is not easy...and the real kicker is none of my credit hours from the 2 years I completed in the early 90s count now. Gotta do it all over. If she hasn't been out for 10 years yet, encourage her to go back before she has to take everything over as well.

The worst advice I received was dont marry to my husband during the tiger(now is dog) year in chinese lunar calender. I was told that if I did so my marriage will not last long. Lucky that I didnt follow what they said. Now my son is 20s, my hubby and I live happily.

That's wonderful! it's funny how people often have the best intentions, but turn out to be so wrong.

I was told by alot of people NOT to marry my husband, I'm glad I did not listen. My biggest peeve is that I was told that since we had hard water and my white sinks and bathtubs were turning rusty; I could use toilet bowl cleaner to turn them white again. This totally ruined the finish on the old claw footed tub in our bathroom. I was rather PO'd and I should have known better.

Actually that's good to know. Was the cleaner by any chance The Works? We had a similar problem and tried that on our shower. That stuff was amazing -- it just took the hard water stains right off. But now that you wrote this, I'm worried I might have damaged the finish.

Some people always give stupid advices as "just do it" and they think it is so good advice :) It's same as with stupid questions like : "Are you sleeping?" "Did i woke you up?" ;)

i agree. that doesn't make too much sense. it would seem that if you aren't getting good marks, you should study more! Thanks for responding.
