Does anyone have this problem while exercising?

I'm not very tall 5'5" and I'm having a problem with the 110 lbs dumbbell. I do overhead tricep extensions while seated and now that I'm lifting the 105 & 110 pound dumbbells I'm finding the dumbbells to be to long for my arms. I've hit myself in the head before while lifting and it hurts a bit. Does anyone else have this problem?

well, there is nothing wrong with using dumbbells. all you have to do is be careful next time or perhaps you look for a good dumbbell which is compatible to you in the sports store.

Thanks for your response. I'm going to have to read that a couple of times and try to make sense of it.

I have the exact opposite happen, I'm almost six foot tall and seeing that I am a chick at a mostly male gym, there aren't many that are willing to spot me. You'd think it would be the exact opposite but that isn't the case. Have you tried the hex shaped ones? They seem to be a little easier to work with.

I'll spot you anytime. That's quite rude if nobody will spot you. I'd be all over you.... I mean helping with the weight (yeah, that's it).... Did I say that out loud? hehe I have not tried the hex ones because there are none at the two gyms I go to. I guess I'll just have to be careful. I don't know if it looks funny this short filipino guy grabbing the 110lbs dumbbells. The other day I was doing chest and incline dumbbell pressing the 95lbs (and nice full reps, none of this half-sy woos reps some guys do). The hard part is getting the stink'in things off the rack and sitting down with them. Thanks for the great response, (+) for you.

I'm only 5'2" tall and let me assure you that there are absolutely NO exercise machines out there that are designed for "short" people. Exercise machines were designed around male athletes, plain and simple. If you're not "jock sized" you can figure you will have problems! SO you are not alone!

Well, there are machines out there that do fit most people, tall or short (obviously you have to adjust it), however, there are machines out there that I've been on and my legs don't even come close to touching the floor. Those ones I shake my head and wonder what bonehead designed that. The gyms I go to, the machines are fine and I have no problem with any of them. Make sure someone shows you how to adjust properly & make sure your feet touch the floor completely.

Unfortunately I can't really relate....when I'm lifting the 110 pound dumbells I've never had a problem. Guess my arms are long enough.
