Here in Philippines a lot of famous actors and actresses from entertainment and public affairs program as well as sports industry are running for a seat in government both local and national level. Our former President Joseph Estrada is a former action stars. Some of our actors and actresses are senators, mayors and even congressman. They say famous people can win easily because of name recall, and they don't spend too much in machineries inorder for them to win in elections. Elections is going to happen this May 2007, a lot of them are actors and actresses running for election from local government to higher post. If your living in our country will you going to vote for this persons?,or should I stick with people running our present government.

i can say that as long as they have the qualities of being a good leader why not and they have the guts to check and balance the actions of the goverment...and what i dont like is what the administration's trying to do, they're encouraging all most of these actors and actresses specifically MANNY PACQUIAO to run under the administration (as we all know the very reason is to get the majority in the senate even in the cabinet)...i know that somehow he contribute a lot to the sports industry here in outside our country but...hello, i can't see any sense of leadership in him...can't he just concentrate in his forte and be with his family?

You are right bout that although Manny Pacquiao is a good person but he has a lot of responsibilities for himself and his career , much better if he just concentrate in his work first then try to run for some lower post inorder to be trained in the government. Administration nowadays are doing their best to monopolized our government thats why they are encouraging a lot of famous people to run a post in ou government.

well i live in the philippines also and in my personal opinion it doesn't really matter if the candidate is an actor/actress as long as he/she has the capabilities/abilities to run the office and gets the job done...bakit yung mga hindi artista ba are better in terms of performance compared to those actors/actresses?im not generalizing everything..it is the voters respnsibility to chose the right one...but in our country's case popular people win..sana naman matuto na tayo.

I truly agree, we Filipinos must really learn from the past mistakes that we have done during elections and that is to vote for people who's only classifications is being famous and rich.

I would probably vote for some actors and actresses in entertainment industry as am tired of trapos in our government. But I will only choose those really right for the position , I will also look over their abilities and capacity to run ourgovernment. But I will never vote for actors and actresses that only wants to bein politics for some ulterior motives. Sharon Cuneta and Vilma Snatos Can be a good candidate for any political position as they had maintain their status and they are really doing a lot of things to improve themselves.

Okay, there are people on here from the Philippines, can I ask you all something? What is up with your country and arranged marriages? My cousin's mom is making him get married to some girl from the Philippines and my cousin is not marriage material, in fact, he should be in a mental hospital, not getting married. Nothing against the girl, but they are both making a big mistake.

For some, there are arranged marriages especially to Chinoys(half-chinese,half-filipino) but with an all-filipino, I don't know for some. Our government is a democratic one and presently some of the opposition like to change it to parliamentary. But i don't what's gonna happen next after the election this May 2007.

Philippines is a democratic form of government. But as what I am seeing the democratic form of government is becoming a martial law regime. Wherein the power is in the police state and not in the people.

Its happy to know that in your country also there are lots of movie stars joining politics (which actually is not good for the nation). In my country also lots and lots of people from the films who worked as actors join politics once they start ageing not to help the people or save the people but to earn some extra money which cannot earn anymore in movies because of age. Yes, in our country most of the movie stars who join politics only for money. I don’t about this in your, whether there also they join politics for money or for good reasons?

Your right about that. Some famous actors and actresses run for a seat in government because they wanted to have more fame and fortune in their cap. Here in our country some there are famous actress and actors that really run just for the heck of it. They run not for money or fortune but they run because they like to have another experienced in different field. When your in government most likely that your name will never be forgotten and you are really protected. Most of actors and actresses run for election because of order's coming from administration and people who is working already in a government

I think that the person's background and profession should matter. I will vote for him/her as long as he/she deserves to be seated on a certain position in the government.

I will take your suggestion. I guess voting an actor or actresses is ok as long as he/she is capable of that position, do you think Tito Sotto is a good candidate for election?.

Who do you think is deserving to win this coming election?
I don't like Estrada. I don't like Marcoses.
Can I just vote for myself? hehehe... just kidding.
If I were to choose the next president in the philippines, I would say Sharon Cuneta. She can sing for us. She can perform. She is a great mother. And she could manage to improve the country. She knows what the country needs. Even if we can't totally erase poverty in the country, she can actually help them.

I think I will vote to those who has abilities and competence in rendering better service to the people. Who will think first the sake of their nations than themselves. Who is willing to sacrifice no matter what is the circumstances for the good quality of life of their people.

Most of our politicians nowadays irregardless of being an actor or not just think of themselves first and not the welfare of their constituents. Most of our politicians are famous for all intrigues and gimiks and not by their works done for the public.

Doesnt really matter if they're actors, or current politicians. Vote for qualified, willing to help, good-hearted individuals. But most of the time they end up being cheated. So we must device a way ,as citizens to protect our votes. We should really push for electronic voting.

yeah most of the qualified candidates are really being cheated. That's maybe the reason why they haven't win in the electoral process. I agree for electronic voting as well like of those of United States.

I do not think that showbiz personalities are made to be ggod politicians. I am not generalizing, but I am not poiting a finger at anyone also. I am just not convinced that they make good leaders. They may have the heart and the will to serve other people. But, they can do that even without joining politics. So why do they join politics anyway? I just hope that they have nothing but good intentions. Otherwise, the people are going to suffer.

I had the same feeling as well, I don't mean to generalized but there are really some nice politicans who are from showbiz industry. But its very rare opportunities that you can find a good one.

If i were to choose whom to vote for president, I will vote BAYANI FERNANDO, He is firm on his decisions. He made marikina a beautiful place to live in, he cleared the highways where no one has ever done. I also like Juan Flavier, tagged as the cleanest, most honest politician. I won't go for any actors, in their campaigns, in their platform, they are all just acting! And ohh... i will not vote for anyone in the administration. "I am sorry!" :-)

We are in the same position , I totally like Bayani Fernando because of his no fear type of attitude. He really done a great deal of effort to improved Marikina as a city. Although a lot of people hate him because of his cleaning up drive , he is ultimately right for running our government. I also share the same views that I will never vote for any administration candidate this time because of what's happening in our country today.

sometimes, i find it really disgusting that some actors and actresses seem to make a mockery out of our political system. of course, there may be those who really deserve a seat in government, but many, i believe, are running just because they are popular. popularity may count, but that shouldn't be everything. running a government is not a daytime drama nor a blockbuster movie!
but i think the filipino people are voting a bit more wisely now. there were many actors and actresses who didn't win in the last elections.

I would vote for Sharon Cuneta as well. Though she might not have finished college, she is as smart, or even smarter than a college graduate. Aside form the wit, she has the charisma and kindness of heart. I think she will be a good politician as long as she continues to follow the good things her father did when he was in politics. :)

Just vote whom you think well experienced for the job. For me artist are not qualify for the position though it is a public service. If they want to help our countrymen they can donate in charities etc. Almost all of our politicians are corrupt that is why our country is very poor. In this coming elections I will not vote for artist. I will vote for the politicians whom do I know qualified for the position.

That is one of the funny or shall we say game in the politics today in our country. Because of the popularity of actresses, actors, celebrities they will run for election though they don't have the capacity to rule the country if they will win. Sad to say but it is real and most of them won the election. I don't discriminate their talent but it is one of the reason why our government is not doing well because of this people aside from others who are corrupt. I think voters should think, think, think. How can we make our country progressive if we make unwise decisions? It is us voters that can help in making our country a better one!
