why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?

I don't thing God will allow bad things to happen to good people. When you personalized your God this could happened. But in some other theory of God, bad things happened not because God allow it.

God has given us wisdom and freewill, freedom to choose what we want. God has given His Word - the Holy Bible wherein His doctrines or teachings are laid out for us to follow so that we could be with Him forever. The Bible says that it is impossible for problems not to occur. Obviously because of varied desires of men. God does not tempt; it's men who are tempted by the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life which are all of Satan. Eve was tempted by these and so the problem occurred. If instead of following the Word of God, we follow the deed of Eve, why shall we blame God? Good means those good according to God and not according to men. But even if "good" according to God, still bad things happen like what happened to Jeremiah the crying prophet.

If you believe god you have to believe Past life. According to hindhu philosophy, You are born again to clear all your sins of the past life. For the actions of the past you have to pay now. So take every thing in life good or bad easily.

God doesn't let things happen to anyone. God is pure and just and for him to reach his hand into this world and help one and not another would be against his very being and he would cease to be pure and then life would cease to exist. God is not the one in control of this world, Satan is. He is the one that allows things to happen to good people. Ecclesiastes 9:11 Gives you the other answer. Time and unforeseen occurence befalls us all.

The vacancy for good people is over hence god just decided to convert all good people bad. He wants to recuit few bad people as cops here.

there is no answer to that, and you really can't say that something bad happend to a good person because for you they are "good". For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

If there was no such thing as suffering, there'd be no such thing as compassion. Both must coexist in order for life to be fully appreciated.

I think that it comes down to this. We are all given freedom of choice. There has to be bad so we can notice the difference as to what is good. As for the bad things happening to good people, I have to believe that its simply because this is the way that we are taught, through experiencing these situations. It doesn't feel fair or good at all, but I think it just has to be. When something bad happens to one then there are many looking on. And it has to be a good person or people wont notice. And the person that is going through whatever it may be has the strength to get through it so they can handle it.

God hopes to awaken the good in other people, who see their fellow sister and brother in need, to step up and offer their hand. All trails that people go through are need to move the spirit in others. I have found that when I help someone other than myself through a problem, my own problems seem small and easier to handle and fix. But for those problem I can not fix by myself, I turn over to God. To give me a new out look on them, usually provides a more details the step to resolve the problem correctly and completely. But then there are problems that turn out tobe a blessing in disguise.
