Need some computer help please.

I have a laptop and it was on with top closed. I went to open the screen and now I have a black screen. I can't turn it off or anything. I don't now what to do? I don't know much about laptop/computers.Could anyone help me put? Thanks.

When this happened to me, I had to take out the battery and just let the battery wind down. When I put the battery back in and restarted it every thing was fine after that.

Thank you for the help. My dad who knows nothing about computers fixed it for me. lol So it is back up and running. Thank you :)
