Well, if the question was just confined to these two, then Firefox is better. I however have doubts as to whether Firefox is actually better than Opera. Opera is faster, uses less memory and is much more secure. It comes integrated with a e-mail client with which you could read your e-mail at the same time. There are wonderful widgets.
However, Firefox has more extensions which makes it very cool, and causes the products to be very comparable.

Well, if Opera takes longer than firefox to load on your computer, there must be something wrong with the settings.
Opera is faster to load, I have all three on my desktop. However, if you want to know which browser starts the fastest, it must be k-meleon.

yeah i completely agree with you that firefox is much secue than IE, you get viruses/trogens/spywares only via ie, if you just use ff and even open malicious spywares, its very less chance to get virus

i agree with u completely mozilla is the best web browser i've used so far it's faster andd better than internet explorer in many ways but in certain high security sites only internet explorer is used and other web browsers r blocked from accessingthat site so sometimes IE also has a upper hand than mozilla

Yes, I use Firefox too.
Its far better than Internet explorer.
But the only thing which dislikes me about Firefox is its runtime memory requirement else its the best.
And its much secured from the virus and spyware attacks. In my suggestion, use Firefox. You may use the Macintosh's Opera too. Its too a better web browser.
Thanks have a nice day.
Bye.

I strongly disagree. Using a different browser to "secure" your PC by way of obscurity is NO replacement for competent security software. Opera is faster and more secure than Firefox, yet even Opera has vulnerabilities. Trying to hide from the bad guys won't work forever. They'll find you sooner or later.
I use IE6 and Windows XP, yet my machine is NEVER infected. Why? Because I use the right stuff. I use a combination of three products to create an all-around shield against remotely and locally executed malware. They are AOL Safety and Security Center, Arovax Shield, and Folder Guard Pro.
The key player in AOL S&SC is its firewall, McAfee Personal Firewall Express. McAfee has known since last fall that the best way to prepare from future threats is to use IPS (Intrusion Prevention Systems). Ever since SQL Slammer and Stack Bot infected an estimated 11% of the world's computers with IRC botnet programs during September and October, 2006, McAfee has added IPS to all their firewall products.
Arovax Shield blocks changes to the browser and system registry. At one time, this was just about enough. Unfortunately, new threats target files in the system32 folder. By doing so, they can actually survive System Restore, which only keeps track of settings, rather than the actual binary data in the files themselves.
In response to this problem, I installed Folder Guard Pro and locked my system32 folder to ROM. Of course, I could have saved $60 by locking the folder from the Administrator account (accessible from Safe Mode), but I like the convenience of being able to toggle protection without rebooting.
For your viewing pleasure, here's how I score in PC Security Test 2006: http://www.mylot.com/w/image/1488078.aspx
Opera is the browser I use most, because it's one of the fastest (FF doesn't even come close). But I still use IE for quite a bit, as a lot of web content will not work with non-standard browsers like Firefox and Opera. For example, there are at over a dozen online virus scanners on the web, all of which work with IE (of course). None of them work with Opera, and only one works with Firefox (Trend) As long as IE remains the de facto standard, and as long as I can stay several steps ahead of the hackers, I will continue to use it. Hope this helps!
