A simple question.. Do you believe in GOD? If yes, then start believing in all other stufss.. Souls, Spirits, Ghosts, etc....
Soul is the actual we. When we die, the soul goes off.. in search of a new body and resides there and follows the cycle once again... There is a Holy Book for Hindus(INDIA) called Bhagwath Gita..It says our bodies are like dresses for the soul. Once it leaves the body, its like discarding an old dress for a new one, the way we change our dresses each day. I don't know what other religions say about souls, but one thing in common for any religion is, if GOD exists means.. soul, spirit, ghosts, etc.. also exisit.

Confused. :S
Hmm... step by step. :P
1- Free will exists
2 - The soul is the incorporeal essence of oneself
3- Free Will is about voluntary choice, being able to choose one's own actions. The freedom to make choices that are not determined by prior causes.
4- Therefore, free will is itself a cause and not an effect in its interactions with corporeality.
5- So if free will exists, its basis must be incorporeal.
6- The self chooses one's own actions
7- The basis of the self must be incorporeal if free will exists, since the basis of free will must be incorporeal, and the basis of free will is the self.
Conclusion: The soul exists because free exists
