Jaded kids

I asked my daughter what she wanted for breakfast today and she said she didn't know. I suggested three or four things, but none of them appealed to her. She finally had a granola bar and a glass of milk, because I told her to get something for herself, since she didn't know what she wanted. You know, she's a good kid, but she sure is jaded for a nine year old. And I think it's because she and most kids nowadays, have so many choices. Too many. When I was growing up, my mother made breakfast and I ate it. She didn't ask me what I wanted. Same with a lot of things where our kids have choiced we didn't have. What do you think? Are kids jaded because they have too many choices and what can we do about it, besides giving them fewer choices?

i agree with you. i have a 9 y.o. niece who is ver blase' about almost everything. At xmas and her birthday we could offer her anything and she would be like; "yeah, fine" or "whatever you want".
She actually reponds best to the offer to share time doing some sort of activity with her, whether it be cycling or just drawing & colouring.
Kids have way too many choices now. As regards food, children should have meals with the family wherever possible and eat what's put infront of them.
