I have been smoking for ten years. Two months ago I got sick with the flu ever since then I cant breath good I cough all the time and smother at night or when i do something as simple as sweeping the floors. I am affraid and i have tried to quit smoking. I cut down to just smoking after meals because thats when i crave a cigarette the most. Why can't i just lay them down?

My boyfriend is struggling to quit smoking too. He is using nicotine patches now. He also read about the hypnosis therapy for smokers who want to quit. Sometimes, he still craves for a stick too so he lights one but just puffs, he doesn't really take it in. It takes some time to really get off it especially if it's something you've been doing it for a long time. Oh, and drinking coffee helped him too.

I have a friend who used to smoke. What he did was he always had Mentos in his pocket. Everytime he feels the urge to smoke, he just pops in a Mentos. =) It worked for him, so maybe it could work for you. =)

A time was there when i used to smoke heavily near about 40cigrettes a day but now i dont have any sort of addiction towards smoking..reason behind that is my patience whenever i need to have a cigreete i start chewing gums..so if you really want to quit smoking then divert your mind towards some other work like surfing or watch tv..after having dinner eat a chewing gum it will help in leaving smoke..

Whoa, you are 32 years old and it is taking you over 2 months to recover from the flu! That is bad!
You are on your way to a Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD). Maybe you should read about it, as a motivating factor to quitting smoking.
Do you have children - do you feel guilty about subjecting them to 2nd hand smoke?
Do you want to live to meet your grandchildren or play catch with them someday or do you want to spend your life carting around an oxygen tank.
Sorry if I sound like superb*itch, but you need some tough love.
Please learn about what you are doing, get to a doctor, an inhaler may do a world of good. Maybe your doc can set you up to meet someone with COPD.
Good luck

You can try yoga. Good for toning the body and relaxes the mind too.
Just for inspiration, I have a friend that is a heavy smoker and when she decided she wanted to quit ,i think it took all her will, she became a triathlete and is now competing. What's more she lost the unhealthy habit of smoking.

it is a tough job to quit smoking, it takes a very srong willed person to be able to do that, because that urge to smoke is very difficult to control ,i know it coz i am a smoker as well.
what i am trying to do is to keep myself engaged most of the time ..as I feel the urge is more when you have a lot of free time especially when you are trying to kill time..so my mantra is "Try to keep yourself busy most of the time" if not stop atleast you will be able to reduce it to a considerable extent..now thats a start.

ya it is a good decision to quit smoking it really makes our life sick and boaring after some time like in first it ll b good and we get many such type of enjoyment which ll not last too long so my opinion is to not to quit smoking all at once u need to keep on making it less and u need to stop cause u cant leave the learnt hobbies all by once so it has to be left in bits.

Fist you have to make up your mind to not to use smoking as much as you can. Now you have to buy a homeopathic medicine named 'tobaco - 30 Quantity 1 drum'. Now when you feel very much for doing smoking, keep four gloubles in your mouth of the above said medicine. You will feel good and your desire to having smoke will be reduced gradually in three month.

Try consulting a good doctor and maybe he will be able to help you and try to adopt a new habit like whenever you feel like smoking just start chewing a chewing gum this will take your mind away for a bit and try to adopt some hobbies which will keep you busy.

Take it one day at a time...Tell everyone you know that you are going to quit smoking. Then you will be obligated to do just that as everyone will be watching
and waiting for you to fail so they can say "I knew you couldn't do it".
This alone will give you the determination to quit. Then stock up on gum, peppermint candy, and drink water every time you feel the need for a smoke.
Get busy with someting that you enjoy. Especially if it takes both hands to do it.
Look at yourself in the mirrow and say I have gone one day without smoking I can go another day. Do this for a while and you will see it's not as hard as you may have thought. Your mind can control your body now it's up to you to control your mind.
