Anyone out there collect old hand tools?

My husband has a large collection of planes, chisels, wooden clamps, and other hand tools. He likes them, but honestly, I just don't get the attraction. What tools do you collect and why?

I have a large collection of hand tools that go back from the mid 1800's to the 1930's. I didn't start out collecting them, but rather I inheirited them from my uncle. I like them but do not display them, for the most part. My fascination with them is because they're more primitive than what we have now. I do a lot of work with wood projects, and they are all still useable and in good condition. Once when I was constructing a gate for the horse corral I couldn't find any of my modern tools that would bore a hole into the hard wood of the fence post I was trying to attach the gate to. I dragged out an antique hand drill, and although time consuming, did a much better job of it in the end. I love tools, but the old ones I have are especially dear to me because they were used by my relatives in their trades, and when they were building this house and out-buildings.

You sound a lot like my husband. He doesn't display his tools because they don't really go with my decor. He also uses his tools and sometimes thinks they do a better job than modern ones. My grandfather was a carpenter, so I have a couple of his tools, but my husband has had to purchase all of his treasures. Thank you for your response!
