Does anyone else eat in the middle of the night for no reason?

I have been noticing that when I get up to feed my cats in the middle of the night, that I am also eating. Mostly junk food...chocolate, candy, anything with sugar in it. I have been gaining weight because I am eating in the middle of the night and then go right back to bed. I am an emotional eater and when I am depressed, or stressed out, I eat. I found myself eating canned whip cream two nights ago at 3AM and then once I got up the next morning, I was even more depressed because I was mad at myself for eating. I have heard that there is a name for this type of eating, but I can no longer find it. Does anyone else have this problem and how have you tried to keep from eating in the middle of the night?

I never had this problem until I had children. Just last night I was awoke by one of th monsters for some reason I no longer remember and found myself half asleep making a pb&j sandwich at 3am! I crave sweets in the middle of the night. I usually avoid this by keeping nothing sweet and snackable in the house....then I usually just end up grabbing juice or a soda. I wish I could stop! There must be a cure out there somewhere...or maybe its just will power. I just think when I wake up in the middle of the night, my willpower must remain sleeping or something!

I think cutting the sweats out all together or putting them in a place where I can't remember them at 3AM is going to be a great idea for me. I think if I see it, then I eat it. I remember once when I woke up in the middle of the night, fed the cats and woke up the next morning with Chips Ahoy pieces in my bed. I do not remember eating, much less eating them in bed! I have been pretty good since Sunday, so I am hoping that I can keep this up. The less I eat in the middle of the night, the better I will feel!! I hope you do good as well!!

And can I ask why your feeding cats at 3am? I'd kill'em if a cat bugged me for food while I was sleeping!

Been there...done that! Not anymore now though. I keep a huge water bottle in the fridge and when I get up in the night I down all that water. Yes,I end up having to get up again to use the bathroom, but I don't munch anymore! LOL Good luck:)

The water bottle in the fridge is a great idea! I would rather lose the weight in the bathroom than gaining it after eating chocolate, cookies, or candy in the middle of the night!! I am thinking it also might have something to do with the differences in metabolism in each of us. I know I used to have a high metabolism when I was young and I could eat anything and everything and not gain a pound! Now, one cookie adds like 2 pant sizes on me!! (not really...but when I eat at night it doubles the fat content I think)

I have the same problem. I get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and as soon as my eyes open I think I am hungry. One time I got up to feed my nerves and ate a frozen pizza after I cooked it of course. the only time I do not eat during the night is if I sleep all the way thru but as soon as my eyes open and my feet hit the floor I go feed my nerves. I would like to know why also.
