I have a toddler who is not only a picky eater but also has some feeding aversions so we have a difficult time getting him to gain any weight (not that me or his dad are large people so it could also be genetics). We have finally found he will drink ensure. I buy a case at Sams and he goes through it in a week. That way I dont have to fight him and he can eat or not. Soon enough he will get out of that stage but why make meals a war. Ensure has 250 cal per 8 ounces and taste great in all flavors (although I dont like strawberry). You can also make smoothies with it and it becomes even more calorie rich and kids love it!

less sugar than chocolate milk and has no lactose. Lactose can actally cause tummy issues in under 3 year olds. Hope it works. If he likes that I would just blend in some FULL fat yogurt to increase cal and call it good. Oh and a case at Sams of their generic is only $15 for 25 8 oz resealable bottles.

Dear amoreco,
Have you voiced your concerns with his pediatrician. My youngest daughter was a picky eater and grew into a healthy adult and is still a picky eater. I was concerned too when she was a baby and her doctor said don't worry she is growing just fine. Well I tried the Fruit variety of Quaker oatmeals and for years she ate them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I carried extra's in my purse. I continued to fix meals and sometimes she would eat what everyone else ate, but if not she chose from her variety of Oatmeals. When we went out to eat I took them along, if nothing on the menu appealed to her, I odered a bowl and hot water and she ate her oatmeal. We slowly added other things. She loves all vegetables, hates most meat, doesn't eat cakes or pies. She is now the mother of twin girls who are just as picky and I am loving it.

I was an extremely picky eater growing up. My parents would beg me to eat. There wasn't much that I liked and my mother would cooked 3 or 4 meals in a night, hoping that I would eat something. You know what? I am 43 years old and like a wide variety of foods. I would not worry about it and don't make it a big deal. As long as your pediatrician is not concerned, let it ride. The more that you make a big deal of it, the more he'll know that he gets attention by NOT EATING.
