Would you pay for insurance & deduct it or have your employer pay for it?

Bush is expected to announce a plan to allow residents (americans and visitors) to deduct their health insurance expenses from their taxes. Today, most people that have health insurance receive the insurance as part of a benefit paid for by their employer.
Would you rather take over that expense and deduct it?
Or
Have your employer continue to pay for it?
Can you get a better deal than your employer?
Can you get your employer to give you a raise if they stop paying for it and you take on the cost directly?
Is this plan a non-starter . . . . I think it is. :)
