Why do we chat? Is it because we are lonely? Is it because we are looking? Why?

Why do we chat? I know I like to chat because I like to talk to people from all over the world. I have met people online and have met some of the people that I have chatted with. I even married someone I met online. Do you chat to make friends? Do you chat because you are looking for someone?

I think everyone has their reasons for chatting online, whether it be: looking for "the one", curiousity, boredom, lonelyness or just for the fun of it. The beauty with chatting online is that you don't really have to worry about what people think of you online, you can basically say whatever you want and sound as crazy as you please, as you don't have to worry about meeting the person if you don't want to. I'll admit that for myself that was a big plus with chatting online, it was a chance to let loose and not worry about being judged.

I like to chat usually because I am bord. Often it has been because I wanted to talk to another adult and laugh. When you spend all day, everyday with your children you try to find ways to de-stress. So it is my way to relaxe and have some laughs.

I don't really "chat" as much as I do things like MyLot and have a sense of community that way. When I do "chat" it's basically because I'm interested in those around me, always curious and sometimes bored.

I chat with people from all over the world via IM's like aim and msn. I really enjoy it. I think the reason is because I am lonely. I don't have any friends around where I live and I'm not much for going out. This allows me to meet and talk with others while still staying at home. I've known one woman now for 7 years and others for close to that. It's nice to have friends that I can talk to and it is a great way to ease the lonliness.

I don't have a lot of friends here in SC. All my family and friends live in Cali so I talk to them a lot on IM's and like you I do have some friends online that have had for a while. Some have been talking to for about 10 years. I met my husband online as well...lol this August we've been married 8 years.

I chat online because I can get lots of responses back instead of just one. Tonight there's no one to talk to in the real world here where I am so I'm here again. Kids are gone to bed, hubby is out at a meeting, so I'm mylotting again.

I too met my husband of almost nine years online. I had logged into a chat room 10 yrs ago to talk to my sister and I met my husband by accident.LOL. I spend time online in a chat room now not to look for someone (not that I was looking when I met my husband) but to meet people and keep up with the ones I have been chatting with for years.

Hmm...Never really thought about it... I think I chat to share my opinion n listen to what other people think about it as well. Its very interesting. I try to chat mostly with people who have the same interests as me. Its easier to get along and we have more to talk about that way. Of course, if we make friends or become more than friends with someone in the process, then there's nothing wrong with it. It may even turn out to be a better relationship than the ones you have with those people whom you actually meet everyday offline. If it was meant to be, then there is nothing anyone can do to stop it from happening. :)

When i go chatting online,i have no intentions to buy myself a date. But ironically,i'd happened to meet most of my ex lovers through online. I'd never married online, though i heard they do it online these days.I chat to make friends but eventually one of these friends becomes someone in the end.In real i am a dork.lol

I like to meet new people mostly. also my days are long and boring, I am married (happily) so no I`m not looking for anyone. If I were loooking It wouldn`t be online thats for sure. It just breaks up my day.

I suppose I prefer listening to chatting. I never got into the chat room stuff. This is the only one that I do. But then again I spend alot of time doing the reading then then the chatting part. i guess that is why my numbers go up so slowly. When I do chat it is more for an exchange of information then for finding friends.
