I've just checked with my hubby, he's a computer engineer. We are living in Ireland, but I suppose the the basics are the same. You will need a wireless router and each computer will need a wireless network card. When you are setting up the router you will be asked for your wep code (this comes with the cd which you will get with the router). You key in the code and you should be ready to go. If I can be of further assistance, you can send a pm. Best of luck.

She doesn't need the router, her neighbor does. Since her daughter can already connect, I assume her neighbor already has one and all she needs is the adapter.

You need to get a wireless network adapter card such as this:
http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=475. You can get them anywhere and they're very easy to install. If you're nervous about opening up your computer, then go for a usb version such as this: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=334 Good luck.

Very well then I will get this adapter card and install myself. I can use a screwdriver ..lol now I do not need the router as others have said right ??
I went to the links you sent and they have them in stock but I want it now lol so I will have to go get one. Thank you so much for all your help...

Well you could take it to a shop but I think that's kind of a waste of money. You don't have to know alot about computers to get this up and running. The card will come with thorough instructions on how to install it and all you need is a screw driver. Or like I said, you could get a usb adapter instead, even though they're a bit pricier and take up one of your ports, you won't have to open up your machine.

In regards to wireless internet we do not actually have to buy anything separate as wireless internet works as a little machine beside the computer and you just buy the machine for wireless that is all, but I do not know where you are if you have to have something else.

In your situation, sounds like you only need a wireless card for your computer. Ask your neighbor what brand of router they have, and buy the appropriate card for your system. Also, make sure it is a secure network. (your neighbor will know) If it is not, and other neighbors catch on, you may be blamed for the problem.

No, the brand doesn't have to be the same. If she has a LINKSYS router and you have a D-LINK adapter, they will still work together. I guess the only reason to get the same brand would be less of a chance of compatibility issues, but they have strict standards that they have to follow and all companies have to make their equipment compatible with other brands, so you should be ok either way.
