I don't know what you know... but today you MUST have a passport to travel in and out of the U.S... travelling to Canada, Carribean, Mexico and other areas around there. A few weeks ago, we took our 9 year old son to apply for one. You never know where you are going away. Also, it is good I.D. for the future. So go get one if you don't have one.

i am from the philippines. but i read on yahoo news yesterday about people in your place that you should bring your passports with you when going to the places you've mentioned. i don't know why. maybe for security and safety purposes as well.

This new law effects air travel only beginning today. I think that coming through the borders by vehicle won't be effected until 2008. You are right, it is good for everyone to have a passport if you are going to do any travelling. It is acceptable and actually more reliable than a driver's license as a form of identification.
