Why do people lie?

i don't know.i don't lie to hurt anyone.sometime i have to lie say when i go for a film without saying to my mom,then i have to say some lie like we were doing some combine studying or like that.it will not cause any harm to anyone.so harmless lie is not a bad thing!but there are some who lie whenever they talk!i am afraid of this guys and gals!

there is nobody in this world who doesn't lie for once in their life. people lie because it is a natural defense that a man can do for his own sake or for the sake of others. trying to cover up things so that he may still be looking real nice to other people. lie is just a natural human behavior.

I hate lies and would forgive my children anything but lies as they get out of hand , I am glad to say they have now brought their children up the same way . xx

Lie is a bad habit in life i have seen lot of persons continuing their life with such type of nonsense habit the parents must try to say the child not to continue that.

because they are not sure of themself about anything

I have been caught in a lie before and its much harder on the person if you lie so I learned my lesson. I now believe that no lie is good even if it is a "white lie" if the person that asked you the question didn't want to know the truth they shouldn't have asked. Also, friends should know that what you say in honesty is for their best even if the truth hurts. They should be secure enough in the relationship to know that what you say is out of love and not to intentionally hurt. I would expect the truth out of any question I ask because I ask because I need to know so I can fix the situation if I am in the wrong or confirmation if what I have asked or done is right.

The liers have several motives, common ones are: 1. they lie to make fun 2. they lie to avoid punishment or questions 3. they lie to postpone payment 4. they lie because their friends or relatives or bosses told them to tell a lie. Any other category?

because they dont have the guts to face the reality
