I got a bulletin today from a friend on myspace.com that said, "If you have seen this, you've been hacked." I opened it up and looked and it was a picture of a comment I had recieved from a different friend, it looks like a comic book talk bubble, it says, "Have a sunny day" and a sunshine with sunglasses under that and the words in blue about downloading myspace watcher 2.0 or something like that and yes, I had downloaded it too. I notified the friend who sent it to me that she has been hacked and I tried to repost the bulletin but I did not know how to repost it with the pic of the sunshine thing so it is just the words. I also went to my add/remove programs and I removed the myspace profile watcher 2.0 from my computer but I don't know if it is too late. Is my computer at risk? What can I do? Should I restore to the day before I recieved that comment just to be safe? I did not see any of the code things it described would happen by my friends comments, so I am thinking it may not have done any harm? I wish I knew for sure. What should I do? Any suggestions? How can I know if my computer is safe or not? Please help!

I would run a virus scan software and check to see if that helps... if you dont find something take it to the store or to a friend that knows something about computers and ask them if they can see anything bad on it... hope this helps.

Update: My friend said she did not send it to me and she said her son sent it to her, or so she thought. My computer seems to be fine and I changed my myspace password before anyone got into it. Thanks for all your help.

The way had gotten hacked was by downloading that program. They probably had a key logger in that program to log your passwords and everything. What you need to do is first run a virus scan on your computer then run a spyware remover. After that go into safe mode on your computer and run those programs again. Make sure you change all your passwords and keep an eye open to see if anything changes on your myspace that you didnt change. Like a piece of mail is opened when you didnt open it little things that normally you would not notice. In this case the only safest way to make sure your information is safe is by formating your system. Dont download anything like those programs I would say always ask the question before downloading. You can message me if you want

First, change your password. Once this is done they no longer have access to your account. I think you are okay but I would run Adaware or Spybot Search and Destroy - both are free and they check for spyware and malware. In fact use them both to make sure you catch everything. Also make sure your anti-virus protection definitions are updated and run that as well. That's all you should need to do but make sure you get your password changed first.
Experience: MySpace user and Windows system administrator.

I got hacked a while ago and they only got control of my myspace account. I changed my password and then was very careful to make sure it was the correct log-in page. That means that the address bar at the top says myspace login. I am very careful now about what kind of stuff I download just in case and my virus scan is set to go every Friday.

Like everyone else has told you, run your antivirus software and change your password. A lot of people have been victims of "phishing" on myspace lately. "Phishing" is when someone gets your password by posting a fake login screen to get you to enter your information. If your myspace password is the same as your password for the email address that is associated with your myspace account you need to change that as well. People often don't think about changing their email password and the person that has hacked into their myspace then has access to their email messages. Some have even been locked out of their myspace and email accounts when the hacker changed all of their passwords. Be careful, and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

I use myspace as well.
I havn't got a bulletin like that yet, but I have seen some like it going around. I have heard about the whole 'myspace watcher' but never downloaded it.
Just uninstal/delete the program.
I would also change your myspace password because I heard that the 'myspace watcher' was not a virus for the computer, but that it was something that can get your myspace password.
I'm not sure though, just delete the program and see what happens.
And if you ever get a bulletin with pictures in it and you want to repost the same bulletin with pictures and all, then all you have to do is hit 'reply to poster' and then copy the next page that pops up, then hit back and then open a new bulletin and then paste it and then it should work.

Sorry but I'm not much help but I sure am glad I have come across this thread as my daughter has a space on myspace and I am always wary of sites like this...my daughter I'm sure thinks I'm just being paranoid. I have just made her come and read your post....now hopefully she will be more vigilant when on this site.

Here is a link to a free download of Avast anti-virus. It's something that my sister recommended when I got one and it is what fixed my computer and got it running smoothly again! My sister owns and operates her own computer store, so she knows what she is talking about. I love it too, it updates every couple of days and it works great! I run it once a week and pull tons of stuff off. Here is the link.. http://www.avast-2007.com/en/ Hope it helps!
Here is the link to a great spyware download that pulls off what most don't catch...also recommended by my sis. I run it once a week too! :-) www.spybot.com

I think you should contact your friend or someone who has good knowledge about computers so that you can ask help. They may help you out because here no one can help you without knowing exactly whats the problem. From next time never doenload anything from myspace forums. I am also a member of myspace & I just ignore such messages.

So you viewed the picture and downloaded something from the myspace bulletin and so you were hacked that way? Meaning you can't get into your account anymore?
I'm not sure if this might have anything to do with your situation, but I recently read some articles about browsers firefox 2 and IE 7, which are vulnerable to a flaw that could allow attackers to steal passwords.

Usually happens on myspace-type sites and they gather all passwords from the list of your "remember password" feature, if you're using it.
If that's not the situation, then if you re-logged by typing your account details in and it was after THEN you were hacked, then it could be a keylogger, which tracks every keystroke you type. As suggested above, webroot.com then spysweeper is a good program for removing that thing.
I hope it helps, good luck.

Its not on your computer its on your myspace account. Simply change your password and it will be fine. This happens to everyone and everything on myspace is a piece of poo now because it is no longer about the user. Join facebook its sooooo much better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

You might be a victim of spyingwares (spywares), these small programs can actually spy on your PC's activity and send it to hacker's pc, maybe tru mail or TCP transfers.
As said by one of our colleague here, use an anti-spywares tools, it might help you protect your precious informations.
